Heading to DC next Thursday night. Will have most of the "work day" Friday to wander around by myself until meeting up with my girlfriend after work. Will have all day Saturday and the most of Sunday to sight see as well. Anything I NEED to see while I am there, or any places downtown DC I must eat at? I am staying at a hotel right downtown if that helps. Want to go to Arlington National Cemetery one day, but wanted to hear others opinions.

You should take the president a gift. I suggest a nice chocolate handgun. Although, he is really busy so you should just run up and quickly hand it to him.

Try eating at busboy and poets for breakfast. Great place. Also if you like sandwiches, go to Taylor's Gourmet. GOAT sandwiches.

Beer Baron for a great bar if you're into beers. They have 500 bottled beers and 50 on tap, its pretty sweet. Food sucks though.

That takes up a good portion of a day. Changing of the guard is awesome.

National holocaust museum is pretty good if you're in to that.
Chinatown has a nice strip of irish bars.
M Street in Georgetown for shopping and/or bars.
Dupont circle
Adams morgan, make sure if you are there after 12am you get yourself a jumbo slice.

Feel free to PM if you'd like, I live in Fairfax and I believe there is another chatter that lives down here as well.

I'm in the area, North central DC.
Lunch or dinner would be Old Ebbitts Grill, or Clyde's in Chinatown. Great brunch at Clyde's.
The Cherry blossoms are still not fully out, but may be budding, so you can head down there.
You can spend a ton of time on the mall, I love the WWI monument, sort of off to the side of WWII.

I second the Busboys and Poets, that is a good one.
I just mainly like to walk around, Mass Ave has most of the embassies, starts north of Dupont Circle all the way up to the National Cathedral. I've done that walk, and enjoyed it. The British Embassy is pretty neat.

Tune Inn Restaurant and Bar in Cap. Hill, they have beer battered cheeseburgers.

Also a big fan of the portrait gallery in chinatown.

Adamas morgan isn't what it use to be, go to H street.

...stop by any govt. office to see your tax dollars getting pissed away but not to worry you can then visit the Bureau of Engraving and Printing at the US Treasury where they'll be printing an ample supply of worthless money.

Yeah, Chinatown isn't really that Chinese. It has a gate and a few Chinese places, but that is about it.
It is still called Chinatown, but has the Verizon Center, Portrait Gallery, and a good amount of restaurants, including Clyde's.

I would recommend the Cherry Blossoms. They are apparently really early this early and are already budding.

I really like DC. It has an awesome culture, people here are young, smart, and talented. Plus, it has some amazing resturants.
