Dang, the cards were way cooler than the tek series. Like a players arm would be made up of gears or some shit like that. IIRC.justincredible;1100226 wrote:That's a shame. If you were sitting on some Topps Tek cards you could get a nice little chunk of change back.

justin, if you've been looking up what stuff is worth, what are the types of cards that are worth money? I know I have a decent number of basketball cards including some Jordans that were worth money back in the day.

Hmmm...I don't think I remember a set like that. I'll have to do some research and see if I can find anything. If you've got a Larkin in there, I'm interested in it.OneBuckeye;1100240 wrote:Dang, the cards were way cooler than the tek series. I don't have a Beckett, but the best way to figure out the actual value of your cards is to check what they are selling for on ebay. Do a search of completed auctions. A book value listed in Beckett IS NOT what your cards will sell at in almost all instances. Another good resource is http://www.checkoutmycards.com. It will list the book value and then give a sell value. A lot of their cards are overpriced, but it will give you a general idea of what things might be worth. In general, I don't like to pay more than 50% of book value.karen lotz;1100242 wrote:justin, if you've been looking up what stuff is worth, what are the types of cards that are worth money? Did anyone used to go to card shows? I remember my dad and I would get up early on Saturday mornings in the winter and go to ball card shows all over town. There would usually be someone there signing autographs too.
The autographs I remember getting most were Chris Sabo, Tim Belcher, Kevin Mack and Pete Rose Jr. (:laugh

I always loved when we'd go to the mall and a card show would happen to be going on.
Cincinnati has card shows every so often, I haven't been to one yet but am hoping to start going. There are a ton of card shops in town but they are all on the west side. I hate the west side.

One more clue. I think it may be a partial as it came in an unmarked white baseballcard box. It was a gift so not sure where they got it etc.justincredible;1100255 wrote:I just threw up a thread on a baseball card forum I post on. I'll let you know if anyone knows the set.

I loved collecting them as a hobby--it's when it became a business that ruined it for me. That's just me though, 'cause my uncle made a LOT of money back in the mid 90's when he cashed in, and he still brags about it.

Yeah, I am just collecting them as a hobby, but I like to make sure some of the stuff I collect is going to hold its value for when it gets passed to my kids. That is why I am starting to put together vintage Reds team sets. Once I complete the 1960 set (only 4 cards left) I am going to move on to the 1959 set.vball10set;1100258 wrote:I loved collecting them as a hobby--it's when it became a business that ruined it for me. Ahh, yeah, the Desert Shield cards are pricey even if they aren't graded. There are some military members out there sitting on a gold mine.

What cards do you need to complete your 60 set. I have cards from early 50s to mid nineties I inherited from my grandfather. I can look through them see if he has the ones your looking for and make a deal.

I was just talking about this the other night while I was getting my hair cut. We were talking about how big card collecting used to be and how the hobby is almost non-existent compared to today. I remember my mom dropping me off at card shows, usually at hotels where they rented a big room. There was also several card shops in about every town.LJ;1100252 wrote:Did anyone used to go to card shows? I can't believe how far card prices dropped. I have Jerry Rice and Bo Jackson rookies that used to be a big deal. Now they aren't but few dollars, if that. I also have a few complete sets from the late 80's. My parents would get each of the boys a complete Topps football or baseball set for Christmas. My favorite was the 1986 Topps football set. It's the one that had the Rice rookie in it. It used to be worth $200-300. Now I think you can pick it up for $10.
