I've really started getting back in to collecting lately, is anyone else an active collector or am I the biggest nerd on the OC? If you don't collect, I'm guessing most will have a collection from when you were a kid. Anyone have anything of value?

I had a whole set from '98ish where the players were all mechanized somehow and had embossments with shiny foil enhancements. If you know what it is and if it's worth anything fill me in.

I have a bunch of box sets from when I was younger, unless they have been thrown out. Late 80s early 90s. I'll have to check the next time I go home.

I have a box from when I was a kid. Some Mantles in there, and typically good old cards, but graded really low.
I also have a book of signed cards. No idea what is in there.
I may have to go by my parents' this weekend and see what I have.

The baseball card craze was huge in the 90's & 00's, but has tapered off considerably due to the supply far outweighing the demand. They're fun to collect, as long as it's just for that--the fun. Also, there are tons of companies producing cards now, not just your basic Donruss, Fleer and Topps. Enjoy.

Topps Tek or Topps Finest, maybe? How many cards are in the set? I believe the Topps Tek master set is around 8000 cards, but only because each card has about 100 different variations.

The late 80s, early 90s boom absolutely killed the hobby. There aren't many cards from that era that are worth the cardboard they are printed on, which is unfortunate because that was my heyday as a collector (ages 5-11). But, a lot of the modern cards do a decent job of holding their value. Also, vintage cards will ALWAYS hold their value, especially if they are graded or would grade high. I am current putting together the 1960 Topps Reds team set and it hasn't been cheap.

My mother threw mine away years ago and by years ago over 30 years ago. Complete set of Topps from 75 and 76, or 76 and 77. I had several Reds going back to the 60's. Back then I'd trade any duplicate for any old card. How much did a second grader know about baseball cards back them...same as I still do now.

I collected when I was younger. We lived overseas at the time, so we could get an older colleciton of cards. I would get a lot of cards from the early 90's or even the mid 80's (i was in Italy from 95-98), and I have some pretty cool cards.

From my recollection:

Robert Alomar rookie card
Manny Ramirez rookie card
Greg Maddux Rookie card

Shit, I know I have many more interesting cards, now I have to look when i get home.

I don't think so. It wasn't a full set as they only did the best players from the each team. The box was half the size off my full set of topps. I'm thinking it may have been an upper deck, but I am not sure. It is anywhere from 95-99 i'd say.

I was big into it back in the early 90s, I have a shit ton but doubt I have many worth anything. I was bigger into NBA cards when I was younger, so I have a lot of NBA cards, including a couple of Shaq rookie cards.

Yeah, they wouldn't even be worth the shipping if you sold them on ebay.

That's a shame. If you were sitting on some Topps Tek cards you could get a nice little chunk of change back.

My dad sells tons of cards on Ebay still. He does the whole collectibles thing. Sells old cards and gold and silver coins. I should just start throwing the junk sets in boxes that he sends out

Like many my age-I had lots of cards from late 60's-early 70's that my mom threw away. I had a Mets Rookie card that had Tom Seaver and Jerry Koosman on it that I have seen priced at $2500. Thanks mom. :D

My mom would've been doing me a favor if she threw mine out. I ended up throwing a few boxes out a year or so ago. The only stuff I really saved from my childhood were my Barry Larkin and other Reds cards. I am working on a Barry Larkin master set but I've got a long way to go. I have around 1000 cards and that's only about 25% of them.
