He is one of the fathers of mma and back the. I'm sure he could have competed against the best but just like every other sport it has evolved. I can point to the time Bruce Lee lost to grapplers specifically Gene lebelle. Lee also admitted that the best boxers would defeat him very easily. Lee even once said what would you do in a fight against someone like lebell and he said bite him and scratch him.

Dude, we know what Jeet Kune Do is. But Jeet Kune Do doesn't = good at MMA.

He was a pioneer. But he would get wrecked if he didn't have time to train with what we know now.

Same thing with Royce. We transfer a Royce from 1993 to now and put him up against guys and he gets demolished.

Same thing even with a guy like Bas Rutten who I love. If we took him straight out of 1999 he would be beaten by a lot of guys.

Those guys (save for maybe Royce, he was a one trick guy) if given time to train like fighters today would definitely be awesome.

But everything is better now. Same thing if you look at great sprinters and stuff of the past. I'm sure some of them if given time to train like we do today would be awesome still. But just transplant them to now and they get beat badly.

Ali is one of my favorites . Foreman and Lennox made great champs . I loved Tyson when he came out but then King ruined him and stole all his money . I think he probably would be ranked #1 if Cus stayed alive and he hadnt left Rooney . Tyson was a beast ,he just went down the wrong road .

You are right on the money with your comment, Tyson would have went down as the best ever if he was not taken advantage of by King. I am still shocked that after everything that King did to Tyson, he never knocked his ass out. I think Ali was probably the best boxer ever, but Tyson was the best fighter when he was focused on the fight. Tyson was just an animal that only thought about hurting you and knocking you out, which he did often, not much style or finesse compared to Ali.

^^^^Yep. Tyson when he was coming up just anilated everybody I think Bonecrusher Smith was the only one who went the distance with Tyson early on . He won a belt off of him ,and then he went on to unify the titles .
I remember Spinx being paid mad money for fighting Tyson and I dont even think he took a serious shot from Tyson and just folded in a minute. He took a fall and went strait to the bank . He knew he didnt have a chance and just went down .

Middleweight fighters of the 80's is also a good one to think on between Sugar Ray,Hagler, Roberto Duran,Thomas the Hit man Herns . That was some serious competition

tyson woulkd have had the same problems with Ali as he did with buster douglas. tyson had problems with guys with a long reach advantage

Tyson underestimated Douglas . Douglas just lost his mother and he had a certain extra pep in his step . He still almost lost . I think Tyson just lost it when Cus died and he left Rooney . He got with that crook and everything fell apart . Ali was the man though and he was a very very smart fighter as well as talented

My favorite was Hagler, but they were all great fighters during that era.
