Some thoughts on the issue:
Unlike at Ohio State, where underage drinking is basically encouraged and you have to be fighting or burning things to get arrested (and that's a compliment), South Bend cops tend to hate the students and football players. Anyone who's ever lived in South Bend or attended Notre Dame knows that. Did you know that the Chief of Police has recently sued Notre Dame? Did you know that the neighbors came out and said that the party wasn't overly loud at all? Did you know that five people jumped the fence at this party and every cop ran after only Tommy Rees?
That said, Tommy Rees is a fucking moron. I seriously doubt that he actually was violent towards a police officer, and thus the charges weren't felonious (and still need to be proven), but you never run from the cops. I can definitely see his inebriated mind thinking that the cops were "out to get him," but running from the cops is never, ever a good idea.
I think he should be suspended for the year.

In just the last year Ohio State has had a player assault a student on campus, and another one shoot a gun on campus. In addition to the fact that Chris Carter (you know, the guy who tricked a slew of girls to take their clothes off so he could feel them up as he impersonated a military officer) is still on the team, I don't think you have any room to talk.
