Rumors fly that Tebow-to-Jags is a done deal
We've been critical of the Jaguars for letting the rain forest cat out of the bag regarding their desire to salvage a financially shipwrecked franchise by landing Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.

By making their interest in Tebow obvious, the Jags are risking that someone will trade up to one spot in front of Jacksonville in order to secure his rights.

As it turns out, it's possible that the Jags don't have to worry about another team cutting line.

There's a rumor making the rounds that a wink-nod-sneeze-fart arrangement has been made to ensure that Tebow will be on the board when the Jags pick in round one -- and that no one will trade up to get in position to draft him.

The goal would be to help the Jaguars regain financial viability in Jacksonville via a run on the box office following Tebow's arrival. And that would go a long way toward killing the concept of the Jags becoming the L.A. Leopards or the London Shaguars.

Any such agreement, of course, would constitute collusion, a blatant violation of the labor deal between the NFL and the union. And it likely would be impossible to prove the existence of a "Magic Johnson in the '92 All-Star Game" understanding (yeah, I used to follow other sports) that the other 31 teams will step aside and give the Jags a free run at Tebow.

Still, that's the rumor.

I think that's a win for the Jaguars and a win for the league seeing as how I don't think Tebow will be that good of an NFL QB. If Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bruce Gradkowski can play in the NFL I think Tebow can, but he'll never be a top 10 or 15 QB IMO.

I think that given the right scenario, Tebow can be an outstanding NFL quarterback.

The problem is that no team is actually willing to create the right scenario.

If they take him in the 1st round, they will be in LA within the next 2-3 yrs because he isn't going to help them on the field and that pick will only mean they aren't going to get somebody of use, and that means of course, that Jacksonville people will continue to ignore the team

I could see this as a possibility...The other GMs are probably ok with the Jags wasting a first round pick. I find it humorous that someone sees first round ability at the QB position in Tebow. Awesome college qb, but not so much in a pro style system. I would take a flyer on him in around the late 3rd-early 4th pick.

Is collusion really necessary in this case? I'm a Tebow fan, but really, who else is going to pick him that high?

The Jags better sell tickets if this happens, because they won't be winning football games.

Although I don't think he's worthy of a 1st round pick, I think that he improves Jacksonville, and if he can sell tickets, then it's a good pick.

I think that Tebow has a place in the NFL. I don't think you have him throw the ball 30 times a game, but I think you can create different packages for him, and get his hands on the ball at least 15 times a game, whether it's running or passing. If you can get 15 plays out of him per game, I think you can somewhat justify a 1st round pick on him.

As a Browns fan, I think I'd rather have a Tebow in the first round than an Alex Mack.

I agree with some of the other sentiments, most owners will see this as a waste of a first round pick.

Once he shows he's a system QB(and Jacksonville won't put that system around him) they'll find somebody else, the fans will be long gone and they'll be in L.A.

Tebow in the NFL will be a better train wreck to watch than Tiger Woods' mess.

Del Rio doesn't have the imagination to make Tebow work.

The NFL isn't going to LA unless they build a new football stadium and that isn't happening anytime soon (I think it's dumb that the NFl want's a new stadium, they already have two very nice football stadiums that seat over 90,000 each). We're probably still 5-10 years away from pro football in LA.

Done deal is a little bold isn't it?

There isn't anyone drafting ahead of them that would even think twice about taking Tebow. If they want to overreach to get him, they'll have no opposition.

As already noted, unless Tebow fools most folks and turns into the next incarnation of Terry Bradshaw (the young one,not the one now ) I don't see this selection helping the team that much. Winning puts butts in seats much more than a "name" player.

Not sure where you've been but the stadium deal has already been okayed by Arnold the Govenator and you have a guy willing to build it. He just wants ownership shares. The stadium has already been designed...

How hard do you think the other teams are laughing at Jacksonville IF this is true? I can see other GMs getting off the phone and laughing. "Yeah, we'll let you take Tim Tebow in the 1st round"

Exactly! Miami, and Parcells who many really respect, took White in the second round.

Tebow will bring much more to a team than White.

I understand that there are haters, but Jacksonville is trying to sell tickets and if Tebow on the roster does that, I have no problem with it.

They still wouldn't be reaching anymore than Al Davis does.

It would sell lots of tickets if they signed him. Contrary to what the 'experts' here type, there are 2 or 3 NFL teams that have said they will use a first round pick on him. They may not, but they have said it. Things change quickly when the combine and draft are held. Tebow really could make a difference in saving the franchise from moving. Cold hard fact. $$$$$$$$$

^ I think it would be stupid to draft him. I don't think Tebow will make a big difference. More people might buy tickets the first year, but once they realize he can't save this franchise, things will go back to normal.

I will even go as far as saying this: If he gets the starting job any time soon and he doesn't play good and the team isn't an elite team, the same people that loved him at UF, will be calling for his head. You may even hear them say he was overrated in college.
