My best friend called me today telling me about a place he went to in a small town in Georgia. he walked in to get food and they wouldnt serve him till a certain time. he said there was white people eating and sitting at the tables and it had open seats. he asked if it was a private party and the lady told him know. She told him he would have to leave. so he left and was pretty upset by the situation. He called me cause weve been friends since childhood and wanted to know how there were still places like that. Ive never experienced anything like that because im white, i guess, but ive heard it happens to all races. have anyone here ever had something happen like this?

Cue a bunch of white dudes claiming they've experienced racism (or my all-time favorite mind numbingly stupid thing I've heard: "reverse-racism") by black/latino/arab/etc. people.

When we lived in Biloxi, the Colonel in my wife's building told us about a few places in northern Mississippi that still are very racist and still have signs that say no blacks. I think it's messed up.

Personally though, I've had some racist comments made towards me here by the Hawaiians. But I always just smile and keep walking. Hawaiians HATE the military and tourists. And I get it. Yet every base is full of thence working on them and they also flock here to use the base for personal use(those who work on base have civilian dod passes). Pisses me off.

Wait I might just be reading this wrong. Are you saying black people can't be racist towards white people?? Or did I misinterpret that?

Orrrrr I was just predicting that a bunch of white dudes were gonna come in here and claim racism and no where did I say that racism against white people is non-existent.

Nope, not first hand. My wife has experienced sexism in the work place. She was paid $50,000 less than the man who had the job before her, even though she was actually more qualified than him. So she left for another job that paid her $125,000 more. The first employer called her asked if she would come back and she told them they can't afford her.

Technically minorities can only be prejudice not racist. Racism requires a group that is well entrenched on the power system discriminate against others because of their different color. Since the power system, or ruling class, is made up by whites only they can discriminate while all others are just regular bigots.

My post was to point out that many white people like to complain about racism. Its dumb, if someone calls you a cracker or honky or whatever then yes its technically racism. But its nothing like what serious, institutional level racism is like, which is what is described in the OP. That level of racism is sickening. To equate to simple name-calling is naive. I know neither is acceptable and its all generally racism but there is a difference.

And I am luck enough to be able to say I have never and hopefully will never experience anything like what's described in the OP. And hopefully noone else experiences that shit either.

I grew up in Georgia mcburg93 and there are still places that I will not go. There are several areas in the south that are just downright scary. Have I experienced it yes, but after awhile you start to feel sorry for people that are so entrenched in hate.

I guess it just surprised me that it still goes on in this day and age. I must be a little naive about my fellow man. I thought weve all grown up and reallize were all humans no matter skin color.

It wasn't racism but it was discrimination. I was in Clayton, GA (I see a theme here LOL) on a white water rafting trip with 3 other guys. About 6am one morning before hitting the river we stopped into a Huddle House, they were open and people were eating, none of were even given the time of day. (we are all white by the way) So we headed to the Waffle House across the street. We are seated, my 3 buddies order theirs then I am asked for my order. I wasn't feeling so well so I said I am fine I didn't want anything. She informed me if I didn't order anything we'd have to leave. I am like why, she said and I quote "we don't like your kind around here all tattooed up and such, so eat or leave!" I was like oh shit, however wasn't sure if she was serious. So I started laughing and so no really I'm fine, she wasn't kidding. I was informed to order or leave, since my buddies who found this hilarious had already ordered and this was the 2nd place we stopped at I just ordered a glass of juice and let them eat and we got out of there. We share this story all the time.</SPAN>

I wish. Ignorance still runs true and deep in this country. The color of your skin is usually the first, last, and only thing some people notice. Thankfully most people are not racist pigs but when it does show up it is shocking.

During a football game last year I was called the "N-word." Being as white as I am I was initially stunned and confused. I've been confused for a lot of things, woulda never thought black.

I think that the more common racism that goes on in this country nowadays is cultural rather than racial. For example, I don't think a black person is as likely to be descriminated against by a white person if they talk, dress, and act more like that particular white person does. Whereas if they dress, talk, and act the way that many in black culture do, they are more likely to be descriminated against by someone who is not part of that culture. Its that fear of the foreign (I mean this in the sense of "other" or "strange", not necessarily the "from another country" meaning) that is so inherent in our nature. But that doesn't mean people shouldn't be smart enough to fight that urge to treat others differently.

So I think people really are becoming more tolerant, as I think pure racism based on the color of one's skin alone is less common than it once was. Our prejudices are very cultural.

Translation: If you dress like you want to kill people, others may be scared. If you dress like a functioning human who appears to contribute to society, you will have a fair impression regardless of skin color.

Judges ruling? You are judged by things beyond your race. So do throw a pissing party if people think you are a gangster cause you look like 2pac

Not really first hand. I used to work customer service via telephone at a retirement planning company. I remember a white guy went on and on about minorities over the phone (he was a cop in a low income area I guess) to me. He was upset at the market and his investment's performance, but then he went straight into a rant about the government and minorities bringing property values down, and about white males no longer getting jobs or something. He didn't know that I was black. LMAO. Funniest stuff I've ever heard. I remember my boss saved the phone call and would play it back every now and then.



To add it that...I wouldn't call myself racist per se, but I will say that I wouldn't be caught dead in some areas of this city (Chicago). And I'll profile the hell out of someone if I feel like they could potentially be dangerous/put me in a dangerous situation. Doesn't matter if they are black, white, latino, etc.,. I've gotten up from one end of a train car and walked to the other end because a group of minority teenagers got on the same train as me. Lol I don't want to get robbed.
