United HS in Columbiana County essentially closed a half day in late October 2008 for a McCain campaign rally, then refused to show the 20 minute long Obama speech to school children 9 months later because they were worried about it interfering with the school day. Happens everywhere depending on who is in charge and how big of a hack they are, on both sides.

WHAT THE FUCK!!?? How is a public school allowed to essentially endorse a President?

Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong? Is this no different that Vladimir Lenin or Mao Zedong having a picture in every classroom in other countries?
Have you never seen a picture of a president in a school before?

Whether you love, hate, or feel no opinion about Obama that is an iconic image in American history. No reason to have a shit fit about it. You likely wouldn't say anything if it was a president you supported.

And, we (not necessarily you, but people who wouldn't support a McCain or Romney) would probably draw the comparison that those here are drawing but only comparing it to Fascist Nazi Germany and Hitler

~sarcasm.

However, I do agree with you that's it's more so that those complaining don't like the person in the picture.

And those people making a shit fit about the hypothetical McCain or Bush or Romney painting/picture/mural/fuckyou would be equally ridiculous.

Having an image of a POTUS is not some scandal.

When the federal government orders murals of a sitting president in the hallways of all public schools I will be the first to call bullshit.

For whatever reason this local school district has decided this mural is in their childrens best interest. I am guessing its not because they are espousing marxist beliefs and leading their children to follow them. Even if that was the case its just one local school district. They would be free to do so. Maybe they just want to show their kids that if you work for it you can achieve anything reguardless of the color of your skin. This is probably the case.

Do I find it creepy? Yes. I would have been creeped out by a mural of Reagan in the hall of my school back in my day.

Nothing wrong with having a pic of the President at schools, many of the classrooms at my school had them. The issue is this one image in particular, it isn't a photo of Obama in front of the flag or in the Oval Office, it is an overt political campaign image that even has the campaign motto on it. Inappropriate.

exactly

If the school had an official framed picture of Obama on the wall hung next to Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Reagan, etc., etc. I would think nothing of it. But a huge hand-painted mural of Obama complete with campaign slogan in a strategic area of the school hallway? That's a bit over-the-line.

When election time comes up this fall will the school administration have the mural painted over or have an equal sized mural of the opposing candidate painted next to Obama in the spirit of electoral fairness?

We all know the answer to that one.

One could argue that though it is a former campaign image/slogan, the slogan can be used elsewhere in life due to its simplicity, and fits in a traditionally black HS that graduates next to no one.

Of course it is former, but it is also future, a school shouldn't have a Bush/Cheney '04 slogan poster in its hallway, even if it is in the past unless it is part of some historical significance, which it isn't.

It isn't the end of the world, but it is inappropriate to have political messages in a public school, and this is overtly political, even at a high school that is predominantly black. If they want to celebrate Obama that's fine, but have non-political picture. No one would complain if it is an official photograph in his official office, rather than that creepy (and somewhat tacky) thing.

Then maybe you all should stop acting like it is. If you honestly believe this is some political move and not just a positive image for the students, then you need serious help to remove that stick up your butt.

Nothing to see here folks move along.

Do you or do you not realize that is a campaign picture? Since I have no stick up my butt but you might have one in your eye perhaps you should read above that no one should have a problem with a picture of the POTUS, whoever he is, but many people would have a problem with a campaign picture when the guy is still campaigning.

I also said it wasn't the end of the world, but it wouldn't happen in any school in our old neighborhood. Some student/parent would complain about and the school would probably replace with something less political. Jesus.

Well its not your old neighborhood so move along. Mountain out of a mole hill to say the least. I have an idea why don't you ask the Scott High administrators what their premise is behind the mural. I guarantee you they won't say political. You all are making it that way not Scott.

I wouldn't have any reason to be angry about his official White House picture being on the walls:

But it's more than that. It's his god damn election picture and "YES WE CAN" on it. It's entirely inappropriate. It's not Go America! or other lame shit, it's his election slogan and some not-so-subtle encouragement.

Maybe the school adopted his "yes we can" motto? Like you know, GTFO out of one of the shittiest areas in the state? be better than they have been? I just dont have a problem with this. I highly doubt Scott did this as some political stand.
