After being suspended in '03 for drugs/alcohol he was seen in a bar relapsing. Why would anyone throw away that kind of talent which you are making a fortune off of? I like him. Its a shame to see this

Very sad story, but not entirely unexpected. He is an addict.

Poor guy. Hope he shakes it off because it's been amazing to watch him defeat the past to become one of baseball's best players like we all thought he would become

Luckily I have never known someone who was in rehab or an addict. Does one time out like this lead to a total relapse sometimes? Or do you think it is similiar to maybe a person who used to be really fat going out and eating alot of bad food one day and then be able to just shake it off?

I did this in 2009, and hope this doesnt get the best of him.

I'm hoping he just shakes it off. But i think Alcoholism is more severe. I know sometimes eating disorders are diseases too, but when you start drinking you can't stop.

Meh, he did this about 3-4 years ago, and he turned out to be fine. His condition isn't as bad as it once was.

Depends on your beliefs. Most people in America, thanks to AA, believe once an addict, the only way live is complete abstinence. However, in Europe they believe in controlled moderation.

So it depends on your view and the kind of help you're getting.

yaeh i was referecning those who had eating disorders and were addicted to food.

I imagine AA throws out statistics on what percentage of alcholics who think they can go out once and awhile and drink and be ok but relapse totally.

Yeah, this could all be people that saw him in a bar, immediately recognized him, and blew it outta proportion.

It will be interesting to see what ML baseball does about this. He could be suspended for violating his program. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he's in the last year of his contract as well. This could hurt him in FA.

This. I've known people who were certified alcoholics, drank a bottle of liquor everyday, who now continue to drink, but have learned moderation. Sometimes things can just "click", and an person who once was an addict, can control the vice they once had.

Do not know about the MLB ramifications on this, but as far as it hurting him in the FA market. Well, if he puts up great numbers, plays well then I think it wont affect it much at all.

Yeah, on Yahoo, Jeff Passan had a column about this. Texas is leery about throwing big money at him just because he's pretty brittle. And with the club having a zero tolerance policy as far as ANY substance use, including alcohol, I'd say his hopes for getting a big payday are tied into someone rolling the dice in free agency.

Yeah, I didn't even think about his injury problems. This comes into play, too.

SOmeone will give him some good money if he puts up numbers and doesnt mess up in his personal life.

I dont know if one can be for sure, but i wonder if his drug and alchohol abuse has led to his injury problem. Some will automatically say it is, but he could just be culprit of bad luck ya know. It happens with athletes

When you have this condidtion...I don't think a 'relapse' is ever a "meh".

Ya pretty serious stuff. Especially when it could cost you millions or the dream job.

I saw today Hamilton apologized for his relapse, but he pretty much has too to save face

Does anyone even know how much he drank? Was he seen taking a couple shots or falling on his face? It's hard to put this in perspective without knowing the context of this "relapse".

This. I realize he was an alcoholic and nobody wants to see him have those issues again, but at the end of the day if he had 3 or 4 drinks and went on living his life, I'm not going to crucify him.

He slipped up, admitted to it, and seems like he understands that with his condition he has to be careful.

This thread is ridiculous. Dude had 4 beers. Just because you were once addicted doesn't mean you can't touch anything ever. If this becomes a problem then obviously it would look worse, but 4 drinks is nothing.
