my fault for making assumptions - thought you implied that those shots were the reason it was stopped, not the punch to the face.robj55;1596276 wrote:Who ever said it was stopped early? I said he was hit with 5 illegal shots to the back of the skull which is true.

I mean the fight could very well have ended regardless since Shogun was rocked. But the fight was stopped because of those shots. Shogun whether he was aware of it or not actually covered up quite well and the only place for Dan to hit him was the back of the head. That's illegal. Without it who knows maybe Rua is able to hold on for another 15 seconds or so and get some composure. Probably not but...Raw Dawgin' it;1596284 wrote:my fault for making assumptions - thought you implied that those shots were the reason it was stopped, not the punch to the face.
The point I'm making is that had Shogun gone down in the exact same manner but Dan realized the punches were going to be illegal and didn't throw them I doubt Herb stops it right there. Dan could well have moved and still finished it with legal strikes in essentially the same time frame but the point is that I think the illegal blows are what got the stoppage. Refs generally don't stop it just from a knockdown, it's when they get knocked down then take 3+ shots undefended. In this case the shots were to the back of the head.
It definitely wasn't an early stoppage though because regardless of the legality of the strikes the hurt Shogun badly.

I agree with your stand point, Shogun had a tight single leg and could only be hit in the back of the head if you watch the replay. He more than likely would have recovered had he not ate those illegal shots, dude has an all time chin and recovery.I Wear Pants;1596312 wrote:I mean the fight could very well have ended regardless since Shogun was rocked. No way of knowing how tight, and Dan stopped hitting him before Dean even stopped the fight. Not to mention, Shogun is definitely limp when he got knocked over backwards.robj55;1596315 wrote:I agree with your stand point, Shogun had a tight single leg and could only be hit in the back of the head if you watch the replay. That girl she fought was a boss. Still shows how tough cyborg is though to fight her in only her third kickboxing match.sportchampps;1598066 wrote:Cyborg got her ass kicked in a kickboxing match

Barao vs Dillashaw and Lawler vs. Ellenberger are on UFC 173.
I'd put $10 on Dillashaw just because it's going to be huge odds against him ha. Also don't see Ellenberger getting passed Lawler. If it goes past 1 round I think Ellenberger will gas.
Dillashaw getting a title shot just shows how shallow the division is.

Dillashaw is 5-1 over his last six fights with the only loss being a really close decision to Assuncao in a fight I thought he won. Assuncao was going to get the shot if wasn't hurt. It's a shallow division, but Barao is so dominant he makes it look worse. I think Faber, Dillashaw, Macdonald, Assuncao, and Wineland are all really good.Raw Dawgin' it;1599000 wrote:

Shallow in the sense that aside from Assuncao and possibly Dillashaw - there isn't anyone new who's getting a show. I think Dillashaw is lucky he's at 135 considering he hasn't had a tough time getting to the title. Also, there isn't a fight I want to see until Cruz comes back.Zoltan;1599011 wrote:Dillashaw is 5-1 over his last six fights with the only loss being a really close decision to Assuncao in a fight I thought he won. If you like grappling I suggest watching Joe Rogan's podcast with Eddie Bravo he did today. You can do audio only, but I watched a little of the video stream and it's really cool. They basically rewatch the match and Eddie narrates everything that is going on.Raw Dawgin' it;1596851 wrote:Pretty cool video trailer for Jiu Jitsu competition.

Pretty crazy, maybe he got popped again for PED's after the Lombard fight? UFC is definitely making a point they are entertainment over sport if not.robj55;1601986 wrote:Jake Shields released by the UFC, wow.

Actually come to think of it I believe that was the last fight on his deal so maybe they just didn't resign him. He will have plenty of suitors and make a ton of money outside the UFC anyway. 3 losses in 10 years, one of the best resumes in the sport. He isn't exciting but like you said sometimes they value entertainment over sport.Zoltan;1601998 wrote:Pretty crazy, maybe he got popped again for PED's after the Lombard fight? Also I dont think he ever took PED's, pretty sure he popped for weed after the Herman fight. It was never disclosed though.Zoltan;1601998 wrote:Pretty crazy, maybe he got popped again for PED's after the Lombard fight? UFC is definitely making a point they are entertainment over sport if not.

It was never disclosed but I remember reading something that sort of ruled out weed though, I don't remember exactly what. I've always pegged Shields as a roids guy, plus my friend saw him in restaurant once and said his back was covered in acne. Completely unfair judgement on my part, I know.robj55;1602008 wrote:Also I dont think he ever took PED's, pretty sure he popped for weed after the Herman fight. It was never disclosed though.

Really, I've never thought of him as a cheater, more a guy who made the most out of his ability which is limited compared to others.Zoltan;1602023 wrote:It was never disclosed but I remember reading something that sort of ruled out weed though, I don't remember exactly what. If it was weed there would be no reason to not disclose it as it would have let him keep a lot more fans than letting everyone think it was PEDs does.robj55;1602101 wrote:Really, I've never thought of him as a cheater, more a guy who made the most out of his ability which is limited compared to others.
