And suddenly Zuffa has found a cure to the ratings blues caused by having less-than-interesting coaching match-ups such as Fat Nelson (WTF? Is this a "coach show, lose fight, get fired" sort of deal Dana's doing here?) and Bland Carwin (capable of kicking ass; no personality whatsoever apparently) going against each other.bigdaddy2003;1296745 wrote:Chael and Bones will coach TUF 17 and fight in Aprill.

I guess ratings/ppv buys are the top priorities. Wtf happened to Machida getting another shot?

It's a business, and I understand that. But why even have belts? This legitimizes the belt, might as well get rid of them and just do fun match ups. Chael leapfrogs everyone at 205 without beating anyone to save TUF and gets an instant title shot coming off a loss at 185? He wouldnt even be top 5 at 205, maybe not even top 10, this is a joke.

Mchida gets another shot but His camp came out recently and said He wants to fight once more before fighting Bones , and they were looking at Feb for his next fightbigdaddy2003;1296804 wrote:I guess ratings/ppv buys are the top priorities. Wtf happened to Machida getting another shot?

Oh good looking out. I didn't know that. I agree with anyone who says it's crappy Chael is hopping right into a title shot but with that being said I will be entertained by his antics on TUF.Enforcer;1296903 wrote:Mchida gets another shot but His camp came out recently and said He wants to fight once more before fighting Bones , and they were looking at Feb for his next fight

UFC is turning into the WWE. Chael getting this shot is a joke. I will tune in to watch him get his shit pushed in though.

Who at 205 deserves it? No one. Having Chael fight him allows Zuffa to try and save TUF and it also lets the division sort itself out a bit with Machida fighting Hendo, Rua vs Gus, and Rampage vs Teixeira.

I'm as dumbfounded as the next guy as to why Chael gets a shot, but Machida turned down Bones...so his shot got pushed back.bigdaddy2003;1296804 wrote:I guess ratings/ppv buys are the top priorities. Wtf happened to Machida getting another shot?

I had a long talk about this fight with a buddy of mine last night, he broke the news to me.
I understand why UFC is doing it. Chael was the most recent title fight loser at 185. He essentially was the top of that division (that wasn't the title holder). No one has really stepped forward at 205 to claim #1 contender. I believe whoever would've fought (and lost) the last title fight at 185 probably would've been given this same chance. Especially since Machida turned down a fight. Shogun is scheduled for December -- which means whoever wins probably should be the #1 contender. Is there really another choice? I understand it, may not agree with it -- I despise Chael -- but, it makes sense to me.

No they wouldn't have. This comes down to TUF struggling and Chael's marketability and ability to sell a fight. MAchida had 3 weeks to prepare, that is a completely different scenario. I would be okay with this if it were a late replacement like 151 was supposed to be, but this is 6 months away. Chael leapfrogs everyone at 205 because he can sell a fight, even though he has no chance to win it. He wouldn't even be top 5 at 205, probably not even top 10. There are so many better fighters there than him. It's a slap in the face to the sport and to the athletes, the business is more important than the belts and rankings. Forrest said it best, why fight your way to the top when you can talk your way to it. There are tons of other choices, this fight isn't happening until April 27, that's a lonnnnnnng way away.

I really think it just allows 205 to sort itself out. Machida, Rua, Hendo, Teixeira, Rashad, Gus...etc, who would you pick to fight for the belt right now?robj55;1297513 wrote:No they wouldn't have. Shogun and Gustaffson fight in early december, Hendo vs Machida is rumored for december or january. Texeira could fight Jones right now but will probably fight Rampage in early 2013. Again, this fight between Chael and Jones isn't until almost MAY, all of these fighters would be ready by then as these fights would be over and decided. This is about TUF and ratings, and a huge PPV that will sell. Chael couldn't beat any of those guys I just named, he talked his way into a title shot coming off a tko loss. He is 6-5 in the UFC and hasn't fought at 205 in 7 years. This is WWE level by Dana, and desperation on their part to save TUF.Raw Dawgin' it;1297543 wrote:I really think it just allows 205 to sort itself out. I think he will eventually be a HW, he has that frame and will want to test himself. Jones won't have a problem with Chael either though but he is getting a shot. Back to back huge money title fights for Chael, marketability means more than winning now, it's sad.Raw Dawgin' it;1297585 wrote:i'd rather see jones give up the belt and take a year to become a heavy weight

All that said I'm still going to tune in because it's going to be entertaining, but the principles of match making have obviously changed.
