Also Miguel Torres back in the UFC
Also on mmajunkie, Dana White said Frank Mir was on standby the whole time to fight Brock if Overeem couldn't get licensed, interesting there.

Cerrone is the one who started it, saying he was going to get in his ass friday. Big deal, they're not criminals, they're martial artists and fighters who are getting ready to compete. I love guys who bring it like that.I Wear Pants;1029629 wrote:Doesn't mean they have to be douchebags.

I laugh at people who bitch over how a fighter acts. Like I said before, it's like they're judging the fighters based on who'd they'd rather date or something.

I want to watch good fighters. Both these guys are so beyond that I root for who I like better based on a lot of things. The Diaz brothers act thugish which is something I don't have respect for. They're both really good and exciting fighters though.hoops23;1029647 wrote:Same.

I'm with you on this, there is always a level of respect in martial arts, but these guys are fighters, down to their bones and DNA. This is who these guys are, the Diaz brothers for example are vegans and compete in triathalons, they aren't thugs like people claim. This is the way that they mentally approach the sport and it's entertaining as hell.hoops23;1029647 wrote:Same.

What I'm saying is that the first thing I want to watch is good fighters. If both are then I'd prefer the one that is able to be cool with the person they are competing against. There are plenty of guys that don't have to hate the dude they are fighting and I respect that.

Pulling for Cowboy on this one but it's way to close to call, definitely not a fight i'd put money on and hoping Overeem wins too. I like Brock but I want to see some new blood competing for the strap. I'd rather see The Reem and JDS stand and strike than Brock try and take JDS down and KTFO.

Allistair is the best striker in the HWT division, but as much as I hate Brock, stopping Brock from getting someone on the ground is VERY tough. Something that only another great wrestler could effectively do (Cain V).I Wear Pants;1027889 wrote:No way dude. Unless Alistair has an injury or is for some reason completely out of shape he will demolish Brock. You don't win the K1 Grandprix on accident.
Allistair has decent TD defense, but he has never faced a wrestler as good as Brock.
Unfortunately I see Brock being able to get Overeem on the ground pretty easy and GnP (those stupid hammer fists Brock does). I hope I am wrong, but thats the way I see it.

Exactly why I can't stand either of the Diaz brothers. Both always bring it and their fights are interesting, but they are both punks. I don't think I have ever "rooted" for either of them.robj55;1029294 wrote:

Then you don't understand martial arts. In every martial art there is a respect that is taught, even in wrestling a respect for your opponent and the sport.hoops23;1029647 wrote:Same.

The Diaz brothers just act like thugs.

Mir brought up a good point in a interview about Overeem's ground game. Btw, Brock is back to his normal 285lb weight which is good to hear.jmog;1029870 wrote:Brock's ground game>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Overreem's, so it doesn't matter if Overreem's is better than Hunts or not.
He said when he was at 205 he was able to choke people out easier b/c of how skinny his arms are (ala Bones Jones) but he hasn't submitted anyone yet at HWT b/c of how large his arms have gotten. Also, Brock's head and neck is fucking massive.
I was looking at Overeem's most recent opponents and they're really not that impressive. (Last 7 fights)
-Werdum (overrated after tapping Fedor, June 18th 2011)
-Duffee (December 31, 2010)
-Rogers (May 15, 2010)
-Fujita (December 31, 2009)
-Thompson (October 25, 2009)
-Sylvester (October 17, 2009)
I personally do not think Overeem's past 7 MMA fights aren't that impressive compared to Brock's past 7 fights.
-Velasquez (Loss, October 23, 2011)
-Carwin (July 3, 2010)
-Mir II (July 11, 2009)
-Couture (November 15, 2008)
-Herring (August 9, 2008)
-Mir I (Loss, February 2, 2008)
-Kim (June 2, 2007)

I am not a huge Mir fan by any means, but he has proven he is a top tier HWT and if not the best, top 2 or 3 BJJ guys on the planet at HWT. I would say he is the best HWT submission artist out there and the only one who can try to claim it other than him is Barnett. 3 weeks ago I would have said Big Nog then Barnett/Mir, but Mir proved me wrong against Big Nog.The_Crosby_Show;1029955 wrote:Mir brought up a good point in a interview about Overeem's ground game. What I am getting at is that Mir is amazing once it hits the ground, and Brock completely neutralized Mir's BJJ with Brocks amazing wrestling.
Those that think Allistair will be able to do something to Brock on the ground submission wise are kidding themselves. I can't stand Brock and will be rooting for Allistair, but if it hits the ground it will not be pretty for Allistair, and I'm not sure how he thinks he can stop Brock's TD, unless he hits a VERY timely knee during a TD attempt.

These fights are hard to pick, Brock has been off for over a year and has dealt with some serious health issues. Overeem has had a ton of distractions, left his camp at Golden Glory because of a dispute with management, the whole drug testing situation and his mothers health back in holland. This makes me wonder how much it took away from his training and how prepared he is to fight the biggest and strongest man he has ever faced. Brock has taken everyone down he has faced in the octagon, including Cain. Nothing tells me that he won't be able to take Alistair down and keep him there.
The Diaz-Cerrone fight is another pick em fight to me. Cerrone is the betting favorite but a lot of that is due to the roll he has been on. Cerrone has never beaten anyone who is on Nate Diaz's level. His wins in the last 4 include Paul Kelly(who was beating Cowboy in the standup), Vagner Rocha(who Cowboy was hesitant to throw his hands against and wouldn't go to the ground with him), Charles Olivera who is a young guy who is really a featherweight and Denis Siver who is one dimensional. Cerrone is an outstanding kickboxer who was 28-0-1 as a professional and has a good ground game but Diaz is the best guy he has fought in the UFC and the most complete as well. Both of these guys are extremely tough to finish, both have been subbed once and neither has been finished with strikes so I think a finish is unlikely. This is likely to be a 3 round war that goes back and forth, wish it was 5 rounds though because it should be one of the best fights of the year.

I'm pretty pumped for the fight tomorrow. It's the first time in a while I have only really been excited for one fight on the card.
