[h=1]Burger King tests out delivery service in Virginia, Maryland[/h]

[h=3]By Leslie Patton and Jeff Green, Published: January 12 | Updated: Tuesday, January 17, 9:22 AM[/h]
<article> Bloomberg News-- Burger King Holdings Inc., the operator of 7,500 fast-food restaurants in the U.S. and Canada, is trying out delivery service at some stores in Virginia and Maryland as a possible way to boost sales.
“We are currently testing the service to bring this convenience to the U.S.,” Kristen Hauser, a spokeswoman for Burger King, said in an e-mail. The Miami-based chain will expand its test to 16 locations from four by Jan. 23, she said, declining to say whether the service will be offered nationwide.

Available from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., deliveries cost $2 and there is a minimum order of $8 to $10, depending on the market, according to Burger King’s website. The restaurant, whose rivals include McDonald’s Corp. and Wendy’s Co., is delivering meals such as 40-piece chicken tenders and two bottled drinks for $10.99 and four large sandwich combos for $23.99.
Customers can order online or via phone. Burger King doesn’t deliver fountain drinks, milkshakes, coffee and breakfast foods, Hauser said.
3G Capital Inc., a New York-based private-equity firm, bought Burger King for about $3.93 billion in 2010. Revenue rose 1.4 percent to $608.1 million in the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with the year before, according to a company filing.

I will say, that picture is the most accurate advertisement for what you get when you order fast food. In the commercials they make it look much different.

I'm surprised a place like Taco Bell hasn't already begun delivering, seems like an obvious way to drum up biz.

I like the concept, but how will it work? It isnt like pizza where you dont have a lot of people wanting it right then. BK is fast food. It serves a ton of people a day. If it catches on, and deliveries become more frequent, who are they gonna hire to be driving around all the time??? They would need multiple drivers.

Fail indeed. Unless you live relatively close the fries won't be that great by the time they get to your house. If you are going to eat it go get it yourself.

I'll take Burger King over McDonalds though.

burger king is the only thing open all night here at school. it would be a lot safer than sending the least drunk guy to go get food.

they stop at 10pm.

I imagine the cost involved in actually doing delivery is going to be more than 2 bucks. Once you factor in mileage, hourly rate, extra insurance for this service then I imagine it comes to more than 2 bucks to do it.

Look at the minimum order though. They will make enough profit on the product for it to be worth it...if it catches on.

Possible. I think the issue though is it catching on enough. You almost have to think that to make it profitable the driver would have to have multiple orders to deliver per trip. The normal FF purchase is people who are on the go, picking the food up on the way to or from some place.

they will have to use some tamper proof bag because I think it is humanly impossible to drive and not sneak some fries...

For the most part if I eat FF, it's Wendy's. Also to note- Hardee's has potential. They gotta decent burger menu. Just good luck finding one.
