Sounds like he's going to be retained as commissioner of baseball. I was shocked to hear how much he makes though. Annual salary of $22 million :o

He said when he got his last extension in 2009 that he was most definitely going to retire after 2012... so there is still the outside chance he sticks to his guns and declines the extension.

I wish I could get $22 million a year for sucking at my job. Instead, I get far less for that.

I had no idea Selig was 77. I have no idea why he would be offered an extension either.

He's actually a pretty amazing commish, just think about what he's done. He created the Wild Card, Interleague Play, Instant Replay and 2/3 of the league have built new stadiums during his tenure. He modernized a game that's so much about history and tradition it makes the bowl system look brand new. Also revenue is soaring and more people attend games than ever before. And oh yeah he completely answered the Steroid question

I like the fact that the All-Star game counts for home-feild advantage. I remember watching that game that ended in a tie, no one gave a f*ck, and it was boring as hell.

It's and exhibition game that doesn't affect the majority of the players. The only thing he did by making it count, if anything, was having a few players play harder because their team had a shot at the world series.

In the end it's a waste of time. All all star games are. The pro bowl might be the biggest one of all.

The All Star game is boring regardless. I don't give a fuck either way, same with the HR durby. I just don't care about it, its right up there with the dunk contest. Outdated.

The All Star game was great back before cable, internet, etc.. and you couldn't see any of these players unless you lived in that city. Now with ESPN sports packages, etc... they're just dumb.

It took them forever 2 get instant replay and every major sport has it. He gets 0 credit for that.

Bud sucks. Interleague play in its current form sucks. The All-Star game deciding home field advantage in the World Series sucks. Keeping Pete out of the Hall of Fame sucks. The cancelled World Series in 1994 sucked.

Yes, you are right the big market teams can just use the small market teams as their AAAA affiliates to set up their rosters. Sounds like an awesome system to me!

Cue jordo spewing his typical bs on this subject.

Lol not surprised you enjoy it. There were players on the NL roster that were 20+ games out from playing in the playoffs, yet they were a helping hand in allowing the Cards to host game 7 of the WS despite being a wild card team.

You have to be some kind of idiot to think Selig is a good commish, and that the All star game deciding the WS is a good idea.

Looking through the thread....yup.

It amazes me how I can't have an opinion without you or boy wonder commenting on it, attempting "pwns."

Cry me a fucking river QQ. That's not even 1/10th of the shit I normally say to you, and this is the post you decide to cry on? Got it.

I even provided a reasoning on why it's idiotic.

Well the Cubs have the #3 payroll and were terrible. The ALCS was between #6 Detroit and #27 Texas and the NLCS was between #13 St Louis and #18 Milwaukee

Also I think the league needs a salary floor more than anything

Baseball is a boring sport. I couldn't care less if Bud Selig remains commissioner or not, because the only baseball I watch are the occasional playoff and/or Indians game. Even then, I usually dose off by the 3rd inning.
