Some idiot caller called into Sirius XM this morning and said "Wallace can either sign with the Steelers and become a Steeler 'hero' like Hines Ward or he can go somewhere else and become a 'statistic' like Yancy Thigpen." Really? If Wallace goes somewhere else he's gonna suck and become "Yancy Thigpen?" There are probably a few teams with vertical, down the field passing attacks where he'd flourish.

Thing is, I don't remember Yancy being THAT bad after he left the 'Burgh.

Apparently this caller did. I think he was under the impression that this offense was the ONLY offense that Wallace could flourish in and that Roethlisberger was the only QB who could throw to him.

Caller must have had some kind of selective memory because Arians is gone. Wallace may not put up the same kind of numbers in Haley's offense.

That's just ridiculous. They should've hung up on him.

I like the stance the steelers take. Come to camp and we will keep on working on it.

If he doesnt like it........his loss.

Yep. Wallace is not willing to meet them halfway here.

History should prove something to Wallace and his agent, the Steelers don't play these kind of games.

And his options are somewhat limited at this point. I mean, is he really gonna sit out an entire year only to find himself in this exact same position next season?

Sitting out a year, doesn't help him physically. Sure he is sticking it to the man by refusing to play, but he isn't getting game reps. It will be interesting to see how this year off changes his negotiations next season.

Exactly, he's being a dumbass. I love Pittsburgh's stance on the situation. Way more times than not they handle it the proper way. If he doesn't want to do it that way then fuck him. He's a good player and I want him to be a Steeler, but this stuff just rubs me the wrong way, especially when it's a receiver.

Agreed. I, too, want him to be a Steeler but he isn't going about this the right way.

Sources told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that it was Wallace's idea to hold out of training camp and not his agent, Bus Cook. According to the paper, this has led the Steelers to take a different approach with their No. 1 wide receiver.
Wow. Can't even blame the agent this time. LOL

Antonio Brown signed a 5-year extension worth $42.5 million. Fuck yes.

@gerrydulac: Do not be surprised if Steelers trade Mike Wallace during training camp. They no longer believe they can sign him long term.

@SI_PeterKing: One thing re Brown signs/Wallace doesn't: I got the feeling last yr the Steelers wouldn't pay big $ to both+liked Brown more. Versatility.

I agree with this. They signed the better receiver. Already hearing Dallas is interested.

I trust the steelers brain trust 100%. The signing of Brown before/over Wallace was the right thing to do as he is much better all around than wallace.

I like the hard line stance they are taking on him, as they do pretty much always on contracts. I dont know who wallace thinks he is.

Give him a take it or leave it offer, and then find someone like the seahawks, buccaneers, or whomever to trade with.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think it's just "Ben being Ben/Boy who cried wolf." He's a tough guy but he LOVES the attention and wants EVERYBODY to know just how tough he is.

Point is, he DRAWS this shit to himself. Nobody ASKED him about the injury. He volunteered it.

You won't see players like Tom Brady volunteering injury information. Ben could be interviewed with a question like "where did you go to dinner last night, Ben?" and his response would be something like "we were going to go to Applebee's but since I have a slight torn rotator cuff, we went to Chili's."

He BEGS for the attention to prove how "tough" he is.

And I don't doubt he HAS the injury. I'm just saying he WANTS everyone to know about it so if/when he succeeds he can prove that he's some kind of "super hero" or something.

Sorry..Pittsburgh may have made the smarter move by signing Brown than to sign Wallace to an expensive contract, but Wallace is easier the better WR.

I think you're looking too much into it, but that's just me.

It is just you (and perhaps a few others) because upon listening to the Morning Drive with Ross Tucker on Sirius XM (national program, no Browns "bias") this morning this was a big topic and most of the callers calling in were Steeler fans. They were ripping on Ben to "cut the drama" and just "shut up and play." They love their QB but they also said he doesn't need to announce every nick, cut & bruise to the media when he gets it.
