Curious what steeler fans think about Joey Porter? Two players this off season that resigned with the Steelers to retire there that I wouldn't have thought of as that important to the franchise. Surprised that a player that bolts for Miami and a big pay day, when I thought the steelers were interested in keeping him, all of sudden gets all nostalgic and wants to retire a steeler?
I understand him wanting to retire there (won a SB I think), but I never got the impression that he was all that missed on the def haha. I guess to me it would be like if Leigh Bodden or Anthony Henry signed a 1 day deal with the Browns to retire a brown.

I used to be a huge Joey Porter fan, then he left for Miami and seemed to get even more crazy in the head. I am sure he wants to retire a Steeler because his best playing days were in the Black and Gold. I believe this, and many other scenarios, is a case of getting lazy after getting the big payday.
If they let him retire a Steeler, good for him. I really don't care either way.

His act wore on me later in his time as a Steeler but he was a pretty good player there for several years. If he could've toned down his talking to/through the media but not the fiery attitude and intensity that he played with that would've been ideal. I like that he wants to retire as a Steeler but I would not have been bothered by it if he hadn't.

Agreed. He served his time well in pittsburgh. Wasnt as well rounded as Harrison or Woodley is though and I think the later it got in his career the LESS he cared about being a good run stopper and was notorious from taking the outside deep route to the QB and then watched as the QB stepped up or the tackle just rode him past the QB out wide.killer_ewok;1229758 wrote:His act wore on me later in his time as a Steeler but he was a pretty good player there for several years. Dont be mistaken, his job was to get to the QB but you have to have some semblence of run responsibility and he just pretty much said F it and looped wide alot. teams started to take advantage of it.

Good news!!!
It will be interesting to see how they work the combination of Wallace and Brown this season. The optimisitc me would like to think Ben will have a little more time to look down field this season with the newly boosted O-Line. That coupled with Wallace's speed should really open things up all over the field, which is good because I still have some questions about the running game.

Now there are various Pittsburgh media people saying that no deal is in place with Wallace. Sounds like a dreaded twitter hoax has struck again. SMH

Considering the fool is asking for Rooney's first born son & "Larry Fitzgerald money" in his contract demands, I thought the 5/$42 mill was a little light.killer_ewok;1232798 wrote:Now there are various Pittsburgh media people saying that no deal is in place with Wallace. He is a fool if he thinks he gets Fitz type of contract. Let some other team over pay him.
I think 6-8 million a year is a MAX I would play him. Until he shows he is more than just a deep threat and the recipient of the pop pass then he shouldnt garner the mega bucks.

I'm very close to saying f*ck him completely.

Good to hear the Steelers aren't playing his game. How much does he lose if he sits out one season? Not just in salary, but with that added baggage when he does become a free agent.

Wallace is coming off as an idiot in this. Looks like Pittsburgh has extended an olive branch by saying "come on in and then we'll talk" while Wallace is drawing a line in the sand.
Some idiot caller called into Sirius XM this morning and said "Wallace can either sign with the Steelers and become a Steeler 'hero' like Hines Ward or he can go somewhere else and become a 'statistic' like Yancy Thigpen." Really? If Wallace goes somewhere else he's gonna suck and become "Yancy Thigpen?" There are probably a few teams with vertical, down the field passing attacks where he'd flourish.

Thing is, if he sits out the entire season he'll be in the exact same position next year....a RFA again. If he sits out the first 10 games and then comes back and plays the last 6 (+ potential postseason)....he'll be a FA next year free to go where he pleases and nothing will stand in any team's way of signing him.
Basically, if he sits out the whole season....he's a complete moron. If he would just show up at camp....the Steelers would resume talks with him and work to get a long-term deal done. The ball is and has been in his court for some time now.
