I dont see our football team making an educational fieldtrip . They have way to many other things to do to consume there time with as far as game preperations ,especially the coaches . your making it sound like a college bowl game experiance . your thoughts are in the right place ,its just not happening. Youd have to have atleast a two night stay at a hotel . Not feasable . Maybe a trip to Hienz field in another WPIAL event

Agreed. They'd go to play a football game, not to sight see. I doubt the coaches would want them to go touring a city the day before a game.

I'm just thinking of how Big Red can raise the bar. And again, I'm talking about taking the entire student body. They could leave on Thursday afternoon after school is out. They would get to Maryland/Virginia fairly late. They get up early the next morning and start their sightseeing. I have been to the top of the Washington Monument at 8:00 in the morning. There is no crowd then. Sometime during the day, the team could leave and have an hour practice on the field where the game is to be played. Then they could join the rest of the students for dinner and more sightseeing. The next day (Saturday) they play the game in the afternoon. After the victory, they go back to Steubenville.

I know this sounds farfetched and it probably won't happen, but it should happen. The money could be raised. We have played enough good teams in DC to find a worthy opponent. If they don't have a good enough stadium, they could rent one that is adequate. They could even turn it into a rally and have multiple games.

Yes, it's just a dream. But since I myself have gone to DC with the Big Red Band and had the exciting educational experience that we had, I think this dream could be turned into reality. Remember-- sightseeing in DC is not just for entertainment. It is a tremendously educational experience and every high school student should have the chance to go. Let Big Red lead the pack.

When I was in school only the American studies class got to go to DC . They were your A and B= students . i was in civics class I was middle of the road . I did however get to go to DC and see all the sites because my uncle lived in Gaithersburg MD and he went to graduate school at George Washington U . Ive been to the top of the Washington Monument and to many Smithsonian museums ,not all but many . I got to see alot . I think it would be nice to take the whole student body ,but your talking about much mucho money much moocho security .. and then you have about 100 kids out of the bunch atleast that like to smoke pot and drink etc . your talking about a lagistical nightmare .. you have good intentions ,but unfortunatly youd have to scale it back a bit

We had hooligans in the band when I was in high school, but they behaved themselves pretty well on the trip. I know my idea is a big project and there are many pitfalls, but I like to dream. If this ever materialized, I would fly in from Seattle and spend the weekend with them.

Actually the hooligans are the ones who need this trip more than anyone else. It would be an eye-opening experience for them. I still remember how the rowdiest kids in the band stood in stoney silence at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial.

I would like to see Niles Mckinley on the schedule, I miss talking to their fans.

I did my student teaching at Niles, and there were some very fine people there. It was a very positive experience for me.

So, far all I know for sure is that Big Red will play Brooke at home in Week 4 and Morgantown on the road in Week 8. If we are to play at Massillon, it will have to be Week 5. I hear rumors that we will play St. Clairsville in Week 3, but I don't believe them.

Originally rollredroll said that we would open with Buchtel, but they have since retracted that claim.

I'm still hoping that we will play in a rally Week 2 against a WPIAL AAAA team, either in Harding Stadium or in the Wolverena. I enjoyed the game we played in Pittsburgh against McKeesport a couple of years ago. I would like to go back.

The reason I'm so concerned about Big Red's schedule this early in the season is that I am already making plans to fly home for some games. I'm just trying to figure out what my best options are. I would really prefer to see games in Harding Stadium rather than away games. I had a very rough time in Massillon in 2010. I am partially crippled and could not make the long walk from the bus to my seat, so I took an emply seat in the end zone. I couldn't see a damn thing. This is in contrast to the Central game I watched from the new west end zone in Harding Stadium in 2009. I could see everything just fine. If any of you have any suggestions as to which games I should see, let me know.

You can pencil in Ursuline at Death Valley in week 7.

I overheard talk of a PA, team and a team from Canada not sure who. Also a team from Columbus I believe Marion-Franklin. Not 100% sure

Thats funny. I was told Big Red was the one who wouldn't pull the trigger with StC.

We won't be able to play any WPIAL teams, as they have passed a rule that forbids them to play out of league.

I was told no buffalo teams, St. C. said no, Butchel was going to be week ten. and we were picking up a catholic school from pittsburgh.

That's a shame. I was looking forward to coming home to see Big Red play one of these teams. I wonder why they did this?

what does that mean ? They cant cross state lines? What a terrible decision from PA . Thats bunk . I really enjoyed playing PA teams .

Thick im pretty sure it is just Wpial teams, i believe you can still play Piaa teams which i'm pretty sure not all schools follow wpial rules. i might be wrong. I think Mooney has Erie Mcdowell on there schedule this year. So there should be quite a few schools that are just governed by the P.i.a.a. in Western Pa ... Hope this is helpful and accurate information.

The WPIAL is basically south of I-80 to about the Kittaning area at the farthest. There's a few ambiguities in it. WPIAL is District 7, District 10 is the northwest. Erie McDowell is a provisional member of WPIAL for football, but not sure what their rules are when it comes to their non-league.

The problem with the WPIAL is the WPIAL has many conferences and membership is dictated by the WPIAL. Non-conference scheduling is handled by the WPIAL. If what's said is true, they've changed the old rule where the WPIAL scheduled 9 of the 10 games for each team. The remaining game was left open for the school to make the decision who to play that first game.

Lets start by beating Mooney in the playoffs then we will be concerned about educational field trips. Are you outside your mind? The lesson I want us to learn is beating one of the best programs in the state PERIOD!
