If they trade that 22nd pick, they have a new QB but still have no weapons around him and no running backs (since Hillis is being sent packing).

Developing him to be what they want is a huge risk, and I have seen nothing in Holmgren's 2+ years as Pres that tells me he is going to walk a tight rope like that when safer more sure options exist.
I'm not saying they ARE going to do it but think about this...Holmgren has never HAD a need to go after a QB by trading up...he's always had his QB in place via trade. He's also never drafted this high. The belief was that he offered multiple 1sts to go after Bradford. What's to stop him from doing it with Luck (at least offering) or Griffin if they love one of them? If you feel STRONGLY about a key player you do what it takes to get them (right or wrong).

As far as "no weapons", why does everyone think that trading up and losing (likely) a couple of picks makes it mutually exclusive of getting "weapons and O-Line?" We're going to have a bit of a roadmap as to what they will be doing after free agency. If Heckert is lying through his teeth and they sit on their hands in free agency that will give us an idea of what direction they might go.....BUT, if they bring in 2-3 starters, say a legit WR, a starting caliber O-Lineman and maybe a DE, I'd say it's safe to say they probably won't be pursuing Blackmon with a high pick and the QB could be in play.

Marino got a 16 on the wonderlic, and Greg McElroy got a 48. Doesn't hold a lot of water to me.

If Ponder (most said was a 2nd to 3rd rounder) goes #12, Locker goes 8th (second round grade) no doubt IMO he goes mid first round. He's the 3rd rated QB coming out. He'll go first round.

Were there injury concerns regarding Ponder/Locker? There are with Tannehill.

Alex Smith (40) and Matt Leinart (35) to those of Pro Football Hall of Famers Dan Marino and Jim Kelly (both 15) and an established star such as Donovan McNabb (14).

Yeah dont give a rats ass about wonderlic or if the kid completed highschool in 3 yrs.

Yes, ponder has a glass shoulder, often injured at Fl state. Locker was hurt his entire senior yr.

Marino was an athlete. McElroy makes Colt McCoy look like John Elway in arm strength.

There's a difference between a brainiac with no athleticism (McElroy) and a world class athlete brainiac (Griffin). That was my point.

That's a higher grade than I would have expected for Page. He's small and not overly fast.

Coa obviously there are exceptions were not saying if you're smart you're gonna be a good QB...its just a positive when your QB is smart because that usually means smart decisions.

I agree. Im actually surprised he is coming out. He told us at first he was coming back to school but he changed his mind.

I think most people in the Toledo area were surprised by the news. All signs had seemingly pointed to him coming back to school. That said, and obviously I have a bit of bias having watched him play for 3 year, but I'd really like the Browns to take a flyer on him in the middle rounds. I think he can be a stud in the slot. He's not a speedster but he's deceptively quick, can get open and hold on to the ball. Not only that he is a premier KO/PR guy.

Not really if they think he's at an elite level. Keep in mind this team HAS to get their franchise QB in place, whoever it is, or they are going to be just pissing in the wind. If trading the two 1sts to get the guy you want/need is what you need to do to get them, you do it.

BTW...call it a hunch but after the Combine, and he runs a slow 40, I think Blackmon's stock will drop (out of the top 5). May be wrong but I just have a funny feeling.

As I said, "anywhere from 2-4 compensatory picks." That analysis says 4 comp picks. They currently have 9 giving them a total of 13. Now if people don't think they have the ammo to move UP, if they want to, they are nuts.

You do realize blackmon is an absolute physical freak right? The combine will only further prove that. He is a lock to go top 5.

Who are the elite WR in the NFL and where were they picked?

Calvin Johnson
Andre Johnson
Larry Fitzgerald

WR unlike every other position seems to have the elite players go top 5-10. Blackmon is elite.

We'll see. He doesn't run a fast 40 to begin with. Not saying he'll slide out of the top 10 but I think he'll slide out of the top 5.

Just keep in mind you can't trade compensatory picks.

I know but they can use the picks they already have to move up.

I disagree with you here, I don't think he is a physical freak at all. Larry fitz and Calvin Johnson are physical freaks, blackmon isn't close to their level. Hell Floyd or Jeffery are more of a physical freak than he is. 6' 1" 215 lbs (Blackmon's measurements) and lacking elite speed doesn't say physical freak to me.

I look for Blackmon to stay top five, but I have a gut feeling that Jeffrey will be the one shooting up the charts. If he runs a decent 40, he may be top ten for sure.

Agreed. Had he come out this past year it would've been 1) AJ Green 2) Blackmon 3) Julio Jones in that order. He's a little better than Jones but not near Green, imo.
