So if we take Hill/Jeffery at 37 would you be mad? We got a RB, WR, and QB with our first 3 picks.

I would prefer Randle as he is more polished, but I definitely agree that we should go WR at 37 and then follow up with RT.

Trent Richardson - RB - Browns

Vikings GM Rick Spielman informed the Browns last evening that he had a competing offer for Trent Richardson at No. 3 overall.

"And I beat it. We were pretty fired up," said Browns GM Tom Heckert. "Trent was the guy we really wanted and I'm glad it worked out." Spielman also confirmed to SI's Peter King that the Bucs were "hot on TRich's tail" to the point that the Browns "had to pony up."

Brandon Weeden - QB - Browns

Browns GM Tom Heckert suggested to ESPN's Bob Holtzman that Brandon Weeden will start from Day One.

"You don't take him if he's not going to start," said Heckert, who has already publicly acknowledged the Browns will talk about a Colt McCoy trade on Friday and Saturday. Heckert also revealed that Weeden was ranked No. 13 on the Browns' board, likely ahead of Ryan Tannehill. McCoy is as good as gone after the Browns reportedly told him they wouldn't take a QB in the first round.

I hate to admit it, but I love Weeden. Anyone else excited to see the team after only the first round?

Weren't you just ripping on me last night when I compared Weeden's situation with Kurt Warner's?

I hope Weeden becomes a solid QB so I can watch all of you guys jump on the bandwagon...

I'm not there yet, although I love the upgrade with T Rich, and am okay with them going with Weeden over McCoy, eventhough he's about 4 years older, but I do think since Weeden has a stronger arm, he may be able to hopefully be fine. Now just get a wr tonight and then later on in the draft to help Weeden and Little and they could be alright. But I still think they D needs some help with linebackers and a corner.

No, because I think the OL's that could step in day 1 and be difference makers are gone, so I'm not going to be mad no matter who we pick, assuming they are an OL or WR. I prefer Hill over Jeffery though.

Pretty sure there isn't a Browns fan out there that doesn't hope Weeden is solid.

Not sure if anyone else heard or posted this. Didn't look back past this page, but on the radio this morning they gave a list of pro qbs that made their debuts in the NFL after age 27....

Jake DelHomme

Kurt Warner

Joe Theismann

Roger Staubach

I'll take those odds.

I wouldn't consider supporting our team's quarterback who steps in and performs as jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm speaking for myself when I say even if Weeden is successful, it won't change my opinion that before the draft I wanted nothing to do with him. IMO supporting him ex post facto isn't jumping on his bandwagon, it's me being pumped we don't have a hole at QB.

The thing is weedon is very talented. A top 5-10 talent but his age made him drop. I think he will be successful. We will have a strong run game and now let's hope we can get another receiver and we could actually have an offense

Not I. I wasn't complaining about the pick. Did I want him all the way at 22? Not really. But I'm glad we picked him.

I'm not talking about this... I'm talking about the guys that are saying that Weeden is garbage and the Browns are stupid for picking him as he is too old, played in the wrong type of offense, played against no good defensive teams, and is a waste of a pick. THESE are the guys that I want to see eat crow...

Well, I did say most of those things before the draft as reasons I didn't want Weeden, but I don't think we'll know the parts I bolded for a few years. As it stands, Weeden is our QB and I have to support him.

+1

I believe this guy will succeed if they surround him with talent. He's a huge upgrade. And it's pretty well known he would have been a top 10 pick if he were younger.

I know several of you liked Russell Wilson coming into the draft. If McCoy indeed gets dealt, it would be nice to grab Wilson with a later pick, possibly the one we get in dealing McCoy (to GB for their 6th?).

EDIT: McShay just said he thinks Wilson will possibly come off the board today, so that would be a bit of a reach IMO.

Isn't Heckert Mr. BPA? And does that mean Weeden was the top player left on his draft board? That's pretty terrifying.
BR1986FB;1154760 wrote:EDIT: Belichick also said that had the Browns not taken Weeden, he would've.
Belichick is full of shit. He's not drafting Weeden when they already have Hoyer and Mallett.

Looking at today and tomorrow, I was starting to think I would like Hill as a deep threat on the outside and Joe Adams as a slot guy in round 4, but looking at the picks remaining I don't see how we could do that and still address RG, RT, CB, and OLB with guys that might actually contribute.

And that's why I wanted to trade down from 4 and add another 2nd round pick instead of trading up and losing 3 picks.
