I don't think he went back to edit his post, but his "prediction" would have definitely been more impressive if he just said they were going to go 9-7. He had to add the "if everything goes right" disclaimer. Seems like a pussy prediction to me. It was a win-win situation for him. If the Bengals fell short, he would have said "I never said they were going to win 9 games, I just said at best they could win 9 games."

Wasn't it Rydawg who was writing off Dalton after the first preseason game? I didn't know if he was going to be good or not, I liked his game in college, but you can't write him off before he even gets going.

Yep. That was my prediction. We will see if it holds up. Obviously he is off to a pretty good start. He's a lot better than I thought.

I am not a fan of the Bengals Organization (meaning Ownership). That being said, I am impressed with everything all the young guys have accomplished, particularly when nobody gave them a snowball's chance (myself included).

Haha I even listed the games they would win and got 7 of 9 correctly i missed us losing to the 49ers but beating st louis and beating the manningless colts and losing to the broncos

Yup. He and I had a long argument about him. It is one thing to predict how good he would be, it is another to say he was average and that he was unimpressive in college... Which is what he was doing

exactly. also never called him average in colle. so u showed me! Dalton is now a top 5 nfl qb and was a hesiman caliber college player. (sarcasm)

I'm a semi Bengals fan (Dolphins, then Bengals) and it's sad that they have to beg people to come. Granted, neither team for whom I root has great attendance.

Bengals fan and fully expected a 4-12 season. The defense carried them for much of the year and the offense showed flashes of brilliance at times.

Still believe the future will be more of the same misfortune because the Bengals skimp on what is necessary to be a contender. They don't have enough depth on the roster and they have too many aged veterans playing prime positions. When injuries come, as they always do, they are left scrambling with mediocre position players to fill the void.

Until real scouting is performed, more money is spent to develop roster depth, and the program isn't dependent on players in their 1-3 years, this season will be more the aberration than the norm.

That being said, I hope they find a way against Baltimore.

If there aren't people in the stands, how can you count them as fans and subsequently label them as the worst?

Maybe the Bengals don't have 65,000 real fans in the tri-state?

Interesting (and new) take. If that is the case, then why even have a 65k+ stadium, or yet even a football team in a city?

That is a great question. I would have to take a hard look at attendance numbers at Cinergy Field aka Riverfront Stadium prior to the opening of Paul Brown in 2000. Having been to a number of games at Riverfront (sniffle) I would find it hard to believe the stadium had more than 45K in the stands for most sundays during the later Wyche, Coslet, Shula, eras. I would think the fact they had a new stadium in 2000 served as a reason for people to go to games when Dick LeBeau was coach, but I could be mistaken.

Let me take a look at these numbers and get back to you.

Upon looking at the 1998 season at Cinergy, the Bengals averaged somewhere near 52K for home games. The low that season being the announced crowd of 49,826 against Tampa in the season finale. The stadium capacity was near 60K.

Granted that is the paid attendance, but I remember being at that game and distinctly remember there being no fans in the red seats in the first quarter. The end of a 3-13 season soured many I imagine.

Here are some hard numbers

Now the team can't sell out? Amazing, its almost like no one looked at attendance figures before building that thing. Good God. It appears clear that the city built a stadium too big for a city that has demonstrated they won't support losing teams, and fail to sellout when teams are competitive (2007, 2011)

Mike Brown wanted a bigger stadium or he was moving the team. Brown then proceeded to coerce the tax payers of Cincinnati/Hamilton County into a crippling stadium deal to pay for it.

Sure, that is a given Mike Brown wanted a larger stadium. But the question remains, do the Bengals have a big enough fan-base to even support the size of the stadium week in week out?

Its hard to measure this if impossible, but there are fans and there are fans who have monetary resources large enough to afford game tickets and season tickets. Cleveland has a big fan base, with fans all over the globe (Browns Backers), however how many of those fans can be relied upon to buy tickets to home games? Economics are a big portion of the problem for many franchises. Some franchises have adapted by lowering ticket prices to games, the Bengals are not one of those franchises. I remember seeing ticket prices for upper dog pound tickets and being shocked they were in the 40 dollar range. I don't know that there are tickets at PBS that are in the $40 dollar range. The cheapest ticket I found through the Bengals Ticketmaster site is a NW corner ticket for 70 dollars. Probably somewhere next to TJ Yates' parents.

Can't the Bengals make some of the seats unavailable for purchase, therefore needing to sell less tickets for a "sellout".

Yes, the Jacksonville jaguars blocked 4 sections of their upper deck to allow for sellouts to prevent tv blackouts.
