The carmont fight is a prime example of how the judges weigh a simple takedown, where you accomplish nothing, more than serious submission attempts and striking to the legs. What did carmont land one, maybe two takedowns the while fight? He did almost no damage from the top and was almost submitted twice from the bottom.

yeah the DC fight was rather boring IMO. 90% of it was with DC just leaning on Mir.

this title fight should be fast and furious pace n very exciting

What an outstanding card, I hope you guys got to watch it all the way through, unreal! Had Gilbert winning 48-47 but that was about as close as you can get.

I had Gilbert winning as well. Instead of a rematch grant vs Maynard gets the next shot at Benson. Overall a great card top to bottom. Dillashaw really impressed me as did josh Thompson

a simple takedown? you know nothing about fighting. A takedown is never simple unless the opponent is clueless.

Some of the things they consider takedowns are simple. In wrestling a takedown requires control. In MMA if you make your oppenent hit the mat even for a second without gaining any real control Followed by the down fighter very quickly returning to his feet I don't think that should be considered a takedown. I've seen fighters slip and fall and stay down on the mat longer then some of these supposed takedowns.

I had the same, Ben would always try and turn it on the last 30 seconds to steal the rounds but I felt Gil controlled the range and pace and landed the harder shots, close ass fight though.

In theory yes, but if you watched that fight you would understand the point I was making. There is a difference between what GSP does with a takedown (controlling his opponent and putting them in situations they don't want to be in) and what this guy was doing (only achieving the open guard, landing no sig strikes from there, taking damage and getting put into serious submission attempts). IMO taking a guy down and staying in the full guard, laying on your opponent shouldn't be weighed as a dominate position. Depending on the skill level of a fighter, the guard can be a 50/50 or a better position, for instance I thought Mir should have stayed on the ground with DC instead o fighting off takedown attempts so that he could work towards a submission.

I feel like some judges come from the boxing world and not knowing what a fighter is doing from the bottom, they need empirical evidence to make a decision, so they go with # of takedowns instead of quality takedowns.

It was very nice to see Nate Diaz get beat in that manner, I was hoping for a more exciting fight between Cormier/Mir but Cormier played it smart, and I haven't watched the main event yet so I can't comment.

i thought it was very close but to get the belt i always feel you have to "beat" the champ. i had the fight a draw or for henderson. i think the computer showed as much with strike counts. that being said maybe he could have done better if he wasnt trying to keep his hair out of his eyes the whole fight. if i was in his corner i would have cut the bangs at least between rounds wth...
