Last year we had the mud bowl. This year we have the sh** hole. LoLJmar25;1296317 wrote:Crops have been cut. Manure laid down for winter... I'd say pretty good.

Mud bowl last year wasn't even that muddy. There wasn't too much slipping going on, anyway.thePITman;1296332 wrote:Last year we had the mud bowl. This year we have the sh** hole. LoL
Now, I'm sure you and others recall the State Semi-Final game in 2002. The game between Smithville and Delphos St. John's which actually was the cause for a new OHSAA rule: all State Semi-Final games had to be played on turf going forward.
THAT was a mud bowl.

I'll never forget that game......what a defensive effort by the Smithies to hold St. Johns not once, but twice on the 1 yard line on that muddy/snowy field. One of the best games I've been to. ONe thing that stands out to me was how pissed off the St. Johns players, coaches, and fans were....My dad and I were eating at McDonald's after the game and got flicked off by the players as they were passing on the bus.

I remember hearing one of the DSJ captains ... yeah, the CAPTAIN ... asking the coach if they had to sit in the snow/slush/mud to do their warmup stretches.OQB;1296367 wrote:I'll never forget that game......what a defensive effort by the Smithies to hold St. Johns not once, but twice on the 1 yard line on that muddy/snowy field. At that point, I knew we had a shot.

It appears that the Smithies will go 5-5 for the season. No big surprises this season, the Smithies lost to the teams that I thought they would lose to, and beat the teams that I thought they would beat. The Smithville/ Dalton game could be interesting next week,Playing for school pride. Not the best season for the "new" coach, but something to build on.

Yeah, I didn't know how good Loudonville was this year, so I was a little surprised at that game, but otherwise, it was pretty easy to pick who they beat and who beat them.oldsmithie;1296377 wrote:It appears that the Smithies will go 5-5 for the season. Dalton may give Smithville a run. I was not impressed with Smithville last Friday night...unless Norwayne is really that good. I guess we'll see
I was wondering what 855Pride was talking about when he said that Smithville was working on some stuff for the Bobcat game. What were they working on?...not tackling?

The 5 teams Smithville has lost to have a combined record of 35-5.
Three of those losses were the result of head-to-head match-ups, in which one of the teams had to lose.
All 5 teams also have a legitimate possibility of making the playoffs, with at least four of them being strong possibilities.
Two of them are likely to go 10-0.
That's a pretty tough schedule, when you think about it.

Teams they've beat (3) are 4-20, with three of those wins coming from one team.
None of the wins are the result of head-to-head matchups.
Smithies' overall opponent record is: 39-25
Remove the Smithville games from that, and it's: 34-22 (.607)
Average team's record apart from the Smithville game: 4.25-2.75

Would be a solid ending for the bulldogs to finish 5-5. They should be a slight favorite this Friday to waynedale and a slight underdog to smithville, although I think they could easily go 0-2 or 2-0. A couple victories would go a long way to propel these youngsters moving forward.

That 02 Smithville/DSJ game was a good one. Sat on DSJ side, they were not happy at all. Great game to watch, even though the field conditions were not good. Still remeber Biechler's catch....he landed on his head and held onto the ball, I believe it was 3rd down. Scary play. Anyways
Big game this week for them Bobcats! Will they be tested???? I will say this, if Hillsdale doesn't play inspired for 4 quarters, Norwayne will name the score. Hillsdale doesn't seem to respond well to adversity, plays not going their way. Well guess what, Norwayne will cause alot of plays to not go your way. If Hillsdale hangs their heads, they will get cow butted. If they play the way they are capable, Norwayne will be in for a dog fight. Hillsdale will be the best team Norwayne has played yet this season. All respect to Western Reserve and CVCA, just sayin. Doesn't mean it will be a close game though, only if Hillsdale plays with some passion. I see Norwayne 27, Hillsdale 14. In a game closer than the score indicates. Oh and all world mr z will have 175 yards. Hard fought mind you.

Question for the old timer Smithie fans. I remember when I was in high school a Biechler, Kevin maybe, from the late 70's. When I hear that name I wonder if recent (I consider '02 recentwas_that_it;1296806 wrote:That 02 Smithville/DSJ game was a good one. Sat on DSJ side, they were not happy at all. Kevin was actually a recent one ('05?). I don't know which one you would have remembered, but there was one who graduated in 2001. His brother graduated in 2004. Their cousins graduated in 2003 and 2006 (again, I think). They all played football.mompov;1296835 wrote:Question for the old timer Smithie fans. Anyone willing to do a quick rundown of family tree?
So it was two pairs of brothers, and the one set were cousins of the other set.
