Both are new turf fields in recent years. Dalton played at Lake a couple times when it was still grass. The seating at Green appears similar to Central Cath seating size wise and and seems larger than Lakes capacity.

I swear, everytime we played at lake it was 15degrees and blowing snow.

I attended the Norwayne/Northwestern game Friday night. It took awhile for Norwayne to get it going but it ended pretty much how everyone thought it would. Norwayne missed a few scoring opportunities early which kept Northwestern in it for a half. The second half was all Cats as their Athletes started to assert themselves and Northwestern didn’t have enough to keep up.

In my mind the outcome is not the real story here. I was very disappointed in the lack of sportsmanship by several of the Northwestern players and fans. I know in these situations it’s usually just a handful that make the majority look bad but there seems to be a trend at Northwestern. I’m surprised that nobody’s talking about this on here.

My understanding is that last week Northwesterns star running back told the coach to go #$%& himself at halftime which resulted in him sitting the second half. The word is that this young man has quite a history of this type of behavior. A friend of mine even showed me a tweet that this kid had sent after last weeks defeat….wow! Why is this kid even playing? He wouldn’t be playing for me. After hearing all of this, I decided to keep an eye on him during the game. He’s constantly mouthing off to the other team and pushing off after tackles. I hate seeing that type of behavior.

There was also a head to head tackle where a Northwestern player launched himself into a Norwayne receiver head first. There was a huge pop. I thought for sure there would be a flag but it didn’t happen. Miraculously the kid got up sat a series then played the rest of the game. Thank God the kid is a big physical kid or it could have been worse. The real story was the behavior of the kids and fans during the time the kid was down on the field. Northwestern showed no respect for the injured player. They strutted around like a bunch of morons. The kid that had hit him paced around and taunted all while his coaches stood there. All of that was unbelievable but when I heard a woman from the stand yell “you didn’t show us any mercy last week” I almost fell over. TOTALLY CLASSLESS. How embarrassing. Absolutely pathetic.

I’m not from either school and I’m a Columbus transplant but I’ve grown to love WCAL football. Friday night was an embarrassment for the league on the blue side of the field. I’ve lost respect for Thut. A huge part of coaching is discipline. You’re supposed to be teaching these young players to be good men. I’m sure there are some fine young men on the team. It’s just really difficult to see them through the players making fools out of themselves.

But when the player is down for MINUTES and the players, coaches, and fans are still over there hollering when the entire rest of the stadium is silent was very bad sportsmanship. Every word out of the Northwestern huddle could be heard on the Norwayne side because it was so quiet in the stadium other than them.

Then a Norwayne fan yells "Shut up and show some respect!" Then a few seconds later, a Northwestern lady responded "Why should we have mercy for YOU?". I couldn't believe it, either.

I understand that it's a rivalry and Northwestern was bitter from the week before, but it was one of the worst displays of sportsmanship I've seen this season.

When you take a whooping from the same team a week prior, I think some of that is to be expected just simply out of frustration and knowing that your gonna get beat again! Unfortunately, televised sports has rubbed off on high school kids and some of what we see on Sunday afternoons has made its way to Friday nights...The bigger question though is Why did the ref not throw a flag if it was so unsportsmanlike??

I was thinking the same thing....What goes on Sunday afternoons with all the big hits is finally at the high school level. Nobody wants to make a good form tackle, they just want the big hit like they see on tv....and that is why concussions have become a big issue. Why didn't the officials throw a flag on either the hit or the "celebration" afterwards?

What did the tweet say? I did a little research, but am not finding the player's account.

You are gonna have that at times....but to take it out of context and say the players and fans is bad. Each team / fan base has them. It is a shame but they do. The comments from the Norwayne side after the game was not that much better as we were walking to cars. I was surprised and shrugged it off, because it happens. The previous week during the beatdown at Norwayne, I ran into many fans that talked about the game and was very cordial. You can find my post on that after that game.

As for taking a knee, there are many schools that do not do it for various beliefs from the coaches. NWN coach simply believes that kneeling could cause cramping. I have seen it brought up many times and you can google and find the same answers and pros / cons. Is it right? For me personally no, but that is my belief and don't think it is a sign of lack of respect personally.

In the end, let's not say ALL players / fans / coaches because it is simply not true.

I agree - not all players, all coaches, and all fans were hooping and hollering for minutes on end. If my post came across that way, that's not what I meant. But there were players, coaches, and fans doing said things, but not all of them.

Whoa Whoa Whoa... I'm not from either school but was on Norwayne's side... I heard plenty that you guys should be embarrassed about. Honestly if it wasn't for the Norwayne fan I went with that goes to every game and the Norwayne coaches I stood next to explain a couple things to me... I would have been appalled. Screaming at a kid to catch the !@@!$% ball. Harbour is !@@#@ joke. I was a little surprised.

Just be mindful it wasn't a one sided thing.

So, I had to back and watch the replay of said helmet to helmet....far from it. Also, as CPI is going to break, I do not see now, nor did I at the game, any of the players "parading" around or showing unsportsmanlike like activity. It shows all NWN players in a huddle on the sideline where they promptly went after the player was down. As for the kid that hit him, he was not pacing around and taunting him...lol. Looks like you are trying to make it out to be something that it was not to add to your intriguing story. That kid promptly got up, shrugging off his own stinger in his shoulder that he has played with all year, and went directly to the sideline with his team. BTW, Thut has also sat 3 players this year for "launching". He does not teach or condone that silly stuff. Watch the replay, kid that made the tackle never left his feet and was tackling at the Cat players waist.

For the RB you talk about, there were some things said but you are way off on the content. Good try. Still was not good, but you got it wrong. You can try and polish a turd, but in the end, it is still a turd and will agree that the kid has some growing up to do.

I think this is the typical scenario when you have a really good team playing and one of their players gets his bell rung, and somehow it was a dirty play and how dare that kid celebrate. When you are winning and having success, sometimes we as fans put blinders on and think nothing bad should ever happen to our team, or how could one of our kids get his bell rung. But we as fans will be the first to celebrate a big hit/play when our team makes it.

As much as a fan base tries to be level headed during success, it still comes across as arrogant to your opponents....that's just the way it is.

#1. Remember that kids and parents get emotional in big games, and even morese in playoff games.

#2. A kid being loud-mouthed, cocky, and brash doesn't necessarily mean a lack of discipline.


Knowing what I know of Thut (played under him for a couple years before he went to Northwestern), I doubt the kid said anything in his face the week before and didn't face any consequences. We don't know, of course, but Thut has an old-school streak in him, and I'd wager against him letting his team act that way without repercussion.

I was at the big game Friday night also. I was on the Northwestern side most of the game. The hit on Berger was definitely helmet to helmet and yes the kid that made the hit was acting a fool. I'm not sure what Sydfl was watching. The kid that made that hit came close to another head shot on #15 for Norwayne earlier in the game. If Coach Thut has had problems with launching during the year then you know that they have an issue. I think it's perfectly natural to try to defend your team but the sportsmanship was very poor. When that woman yelled her comment from the stands I couldnt believe it. The team and the fans were obviously very frustrated. They were in route to another beat down. Frustration is normal but I think some people and players crossed the line

As far as home fans dogging the coach and kids for dropping the ball, that happens everywhere. That doesn't make it right but it happens everywhere

There was nothing wrong with the hit. Yes, their helmets hit, but the players both initiated contact with each other. If I remember correctly, it wasn't a defenseless receiver or anything like that. Berger caught the ball in the flats, and it was 5+ yards up the field he and the defender collided. It was a big hit, both players were aggressive. It's unfortunate that someone got temporarily injured, but I saw nothing flagrant about the hit.

When that woman yelled...it was a surprise to all....not just Norwayne fans. Its not like everyone was chanting or something...lol.

Watch the replay my friend, helmets during the tackle, it was not an aggressive helmet to helmet shot. When was this "almost" helmet to helmet on #15...I got the replay up and running..ref was right there and did not flag. And they were definitely not shy on throwing flags on NWN that night....of course, not that we did not deserve them. Good game by cats...good luck

Sure but profanity laced and loud enough where everyone could hear it?!?! The majority was done by a couple of people around me but as a visiting fan... I bit my tongue and chalked it up to ignorance.

also attended the game friday evening and since the topic is being discussed. What about the late hit on the last int of the game? watched the replay and clearly one of the husky players dove at another player from behind taking out his knees. i am actually surprised there was not more of a bench clearing brawl at that point. I hope all are ok, but sometimes we need to remember these are teenagers playing the game and they let their tempers get the best of them. good luck to all remaining county teams out there!
