You still aren't allowed to lead with your head. I don't think that has ever changed... Now... is it called like it was?!?! That might be the difference. The game moves faster than it ever has. your average kids are bigger stronger and faster than years past. I don't think your top end guys have improved substantially, but either way I think unless it is a clear and obvious lead with the head... they won't call it or they could call it every play.oldsmithie;1310478 wrote:Trust me, Schrock will not be taking the Chippewa job.
The concussion issue is more prevelent today than almost 40 years ago when I played. We played the game very differently than it is played today. The rule changes over the years have taken some of the saftey away from the game. Years ago, if you lead with your head or did one of these missle launch hits, it was concidered "spearing" and it was a penelty and you could get tossed out of the game because it was considered playing dirty. I know it sounds like I should get out of the "way back" machine LOL!
If you remember the first year they put emphasis on hits to the head... the whole contact to the head of the QB or WR was called almost every play the first game or two then the zebras got wise and changed their ridiculous amount of calls. (PLEASE SOMEONE TELL THE NFL REFS TO KNOCK IT OFF TOO!)
