Ohio high school football has lost a legend.

I was fortunate to know Mo from a very early age as Scott was a friend and classmate, then later I knew him as a coach. Mo would definately be my prime candidate for Readers Digest's most unforgetable character. It's hard to explain to anybody that never met him or watched his teams play how his personality could fill up a stadium. A dozen years after Mo stopped coaching when I took my son on recruiting trips and the coaches found out we were from Orrville, it was amazing how often the next question was, "so how is Mo doing?". I remember he came and talked to my son and Brent Steiner on recruiting and what to expect. I was so impressed because he knew everything about those boys and their careers. He knew their strengths and weaknesses and told them what they needed to work on and did it in a way that was motivating. He was still coaching. Thank you and RIP coach.

I was fortunate to work for him for seven years. I learned about people, life in general and how to approach situations head on with diplomacy. Those years were more valuable to me than any formal education. We were very successful and I will cherish those times forever.
He was so good at diagnosing the opposing team’s strengths and weaknesses that he would watch a film, turn the projector off and go to the blackboard and start scribbling plays. He sure was a character and every place we went he knew everyone and everyone knew him! An amazing man! RIP Mo.

Our sincerest condolences to the Red Riders. Such a great loss for the greater Wayne County community. He will not be forgotten.

I had the opportunity to meet MO in 1979 with a great friend Kelly Handwerk, he took me to Orville on a break when we were at UD. Being from back east I had never been to a place like Orville. I just remember walking into his office, he made me feel like he knew me his whole life, great guy. Had some great times with Scott also. But the thing that stands out most in my mind is the story that Kelly told about the game that Mo had Kelly switch jerseys with Craig Pack to try & fool an upcoming opponent. Anyway I guess Pack had the game of his life with Kelly's jersey, Kelly like myself was UD type of athlete but he start getting heavily recruited by all these big ten schools, and I believe one even offered him a scholorship. Being suspiscous he asked Mo " What film have u been sending out" Sure enough it was the game that Pack wore Kelly's jersey and had the game of his life. Rest in peace MO, Thank you for the memories!
