It's possible, but getting out-coached by Dave Wannstedt should have been a warning sign to the Maize and Blow.

At a school like clemson thats what it takes to keep very good coordinators. His buyout is also very small. That's a lot of money (for Morris) even for Ohio State standards. And there is nothing wrong with that at all. Stop getting so defensive. Everybody knows that great coaches make lots of money.

You two better buckle up when you see what OSU ends up paying their coaches. Clemson didn't just pull that number out of their ass.

Didn't mean to be so super defensive. Been getting a lot of shit from Gamecock fans recently and its hard to switch my tone over. I am not saying Urban is going to flop! I hope he doesn't because my dad went there and I grew up a buckeye fan; still love watching the bucks kick ass. All I am saying is that he is being paid a LOT when the last season he had was pretty abysmal and there are questions over his health.

My other point is that really it just does take a lot of cash to hold onto a catch like Morris at a place like Clemson. We are not quite to that point where we can keep coaches based on pure reputation alone; it takes some cash money haha. If we didn't offer the big bucks, we would never get continuity in our staff and it would be rebuilding year after year. I am ecstatic that we held onto coach Morris; he improved our offense leaps and bounds (88th in yardage to top 30) with a RS Frosh QB with no real experience and almost all freshman.

I believe Urban will be the right hire for OSU because he will not destroy the defense like RRod did (3-3-5 stack? At Michigan? Really?), but there is no guarantee that it will work out for him.

OSU has around $1m a year budgeted for the defensive and offensive coordinators. That is with Fickell making $750K. Meyer's contract was not as large as most reported because he wanted the budget to hire top notch assistants.

This is a new era of OSU football in terms of paying assistants. The rest of the Big Ten can choose to keep up if they want.

I really was only LOLing because Chad was going to make a significant amount of what Dabo was. I guess I didn't see that Dabo got a raise.

And OSU's budget is around 125 million. I'm too lazy to look up Clemson's but I doubt it is close.

Ohio State's football budget is not 125 million, there is no way. Looking at revenues on several sources, BizJournal has the best website for looking them up.
Ohio State University Big Ten $63,750,000.00 $31,763,036.00 $2.01
revenue expenses revenue per dollar spent
Clemson University ACC $30,994,503.00 $16,305,528.00 $1.90
revenue exp rpds

This makes sense as Clemson has about 1/10 the alumi base of OH ST. Never claimed that we even touched OSU haha, ya'll are loaded. Just that we do well enough to hold our own for such a small school (14K undergrads).

Here's a good look at OSU's football budget:

Yeah total athletic budget is $125 mil. But where do you think that money comes from? It sure ain't the rowing and rifle teams.

And I'm really not knocking Clemson, they have done well for themselves in a tough area to break through in. I was just shocked at the $1.4 sticker price.

Ahh ok that makes more sense. I was like no way 125 million is just for football!!! With the sheer size of the OSU Athletic Dept. this does not surprise me in the slightest. Think about how many strong programs OSU supports: Football, Bball, womens bball, wrestling, etc.

Tom Herman Iowa State OC is the QB coach

If Stoops is out Chuck Heater will likely be the guy. I would say Heater is more likely at this point.

If they only have $1m budgeted, I think OSU is the one trying to keep up. Michigan already pays it's OC and DC more than that.

I believe its 1 mill MORE than they are already paying out. Its in addition to current salaries.

What they are currently paying seems to be right in line. They may a little more for a OC. Mattison is the highest paid assistant in the B1G right now, but OSU could change that. I could see them going up to $1m for the right DC, but they are far and few between.

Either way, good programs know they have to spend the cash on good assistants. And OSU will do just that.

What does Mattison make? I meant OSU has around $1m budgeted for the OC, and another $1m budgeted for DC. Possibly as high as $3m total if the right guys are available.

$750k.

$1m each would definitely be the high end I think. Weis doesn't even make $1m. (insert ND jokes here)

Something interesting I read and didn't know. That Meyer actually coached under Heacock for two years when Heacock was the head coach at Illinois State. Meyer was the LB coach one year, and the qb/wr coach another. I wonder if Meyer is at all considering keeping him? Based on Stoops and other rumors, it certainly doesn't look like he would keep in his current capacity.

From stuff written on other sites, I get the impression that Heacock is ready to retire. He's in his mid 60s and there were reports that he had problems adjusting to some of the offenses OSU played this year. Perhaps he's decided it's time to call it a career. I've seen nothing to suggest he is being retained.

Heacock is out. I don't think he could keep up with the pace. He is good enough, just not agressive enough. Especially in recruiting.
