He says Jim Delaney is going to be much more aggressive this year in recruiting a 12th team to the league.

One vote for Missouri.

Adds at least one more good rivalry game (Illinois) and brings in a couple nice media markets in St. Louis and KC.

Do what you have to do to get ND. Other than that, I, personally would like to see Pitt, WVU, or Rutgers.

no, don't want to see Notre Dame.

The conference will come up with a stupid way to do divisions and end up with one loaded one and one weak one(like the Big XII)

I can see this happening:

Division A
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Notre Dame
Wisconsin
probably Iowa

Division B
Northwestern
Minnesota
Purdue
Michigan State
Illinois
Indiana

Although ND, unfortunately, more readily fits the Big Televen criteria, I can see West Virginia or Pitt. Penn State wants Pitt without a doubt. A lot of PSU fans are upset that the Pitt-Penn State rivalry was killed when the Nittany Lions joined the Big Televen.

The question I have is what will the conference be called? It's stupid to call it the Big 10 now with 11 teams. If the Big Televen adds a 12th team would the league change its name to the "Big 12 Too", Big Dozen, Midwestern/Eastern Mutt League??

Big 12 Too

Southeastern Division

Penn State
Pitt or West Virginia
Ohio State
Indiana
Purdue
Michigan State

Northwestern Division

Michigan
Illinois
Northwestern
Wisconsin
Iowa
Minnesota

No one is stopping Pitt and Penn State from scheduling each other every year. I'm sure the Big Ten isn't stopping them. If the Big Ten adds a team it has to be Notre Dame. If not then don't add anyone.

Paterno ended the Pitt series because he is basically a pussy. Papa Joe has a 40 year history of playing cup cakes.

Whenever Penn State joined the big 10, the walkin/talkin JoPas all said that he'd teach the Conference how real football is played.

Well, other than the year they had Collins at quarterback and Kijana Carter as ball carrier, they haven't done much.

I would love for Pitt to join. The Pitt/Penn State game should happen on the same day Ohio State plays Michigan each and every year.

Will never happen. UC's success in basketball and a "fluke" year in football isn't enough. The stadium is too small and its academic standards aren't nearly as good as the rest of the Big Televen.

At least these are the bullshit reasons the Buckeye fans will tell you.

True. It earned him a bronze statue outside of Beaver Stadium. lol

Also true. The Buckeye fans who live here in State College (including me) take IMMENSE pleasure in reminding the local Lions fans of that little falsehood.

In all fairness they did beat OSU in the Shoe last year to win the Big 10 title (ok share but head-to-head at least). And with Michigan in the shitter of late, PSU has been the only real threat to the Buckeyes this past decade.

UC isn't a very good choice for a number of reasons.

1.Academics-This would be the biggest reason they wouldn't be able to join. The academics of UC are well below the standards of the other institutions in the Big Ten

2.Football-besides recently, Cincinnati really hasn't been a "powerhouse" program. They have a small stadium and subpar(even though I know they are upgrading) facilities. I think the Big Ten needs to bring in a team that has at least a big draw.

3.Basketball-since they are predominately a basketball school, I would imagine that they like being in the Big East, which is known for basketball.

Pittsburgh
West Virginia
Missouri
Cincinnati

Those are the teams I'd like to see in, in that order. Just one though, obviously. They could take Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Missouri and go to fourteen teams. That would be something..

I don't see a Big 12 school leaving for the Big Ten.

A Big East school may do it.

There has been mention (not sure where, but I heard it on Old Huddle) before that Iowa State, Nebraska and Missouri (especially Mizzou) would seriously consider what the Big 10 had to say. Missouri is unhappy in the Big XII, why I'm not sure. But I've heard that multiple times before.
ohiotiger33 wrote: Missouri to Big 10-- TCU to big 12

I agree. TCU would be legitimized and Mizzou is a good fit in either conference. The Big XII really isn't losing anything in this scenario.
ccrunner609 wrote: what about UC?
Will not happen. OSU will never let this happen and that's all that matters. Although I highly doubt most of the other institutions would be in support of this either.

I think if Mizzou is interested in what the Big 10 has to say they would get a good amount of support from current member schools...I personally feel that OSU would be on board as long as they are a member of that one association that I can't remember the name of that the rest of the conference belongs to. Notre Dame is still the 1st choice but I just don't think it'll ever happen. Pittsburgh is good too but I think Mizzou would beat them out because Pitt won't bring in a new media market.

I, too, am interested in how they would split the divisions and what the conference would be renamed. Big Midwest, perhaps?

First off you change the conference name to Big Twen.

Second, when you start looking at additions I think Missouri would be choice #1 but they'd never leave the Big 12.

Notre Dame has to be at the top of the list simply because of the interest they draw on the national scene, whether they are good or not as evidenced since Lou Holtz left South Bend.

UC won't make the cut for reasons mentioned above and I don't think Ohio State would let that happen. There is really no love loss between the two schools and I'd see them blocking that.

Pitt might be feasible and that would be an interesting choice.

I don't see WVU making the cut. They are a little out of the way for schools in the western part of the conference. I know PSU is too but travelling to WVU involved flying into Pittsburgh and heading 60-70 miles south to Morgantown. PSU has an airport in town. That might make some difference but who knows.

Pitt has the academic standards to join, WVU and UC do not.
It has to be either Pitt or Mizzo.

If the Big 10 wants the biggest gauranteed draw that will produce the most revenue they ask ND.

Another vote for Pitt, strong football and basketball programs constantly. How do you think they'd split it, East-West, North-South? Would they separate OSU and Mich into different divisions?

I honestly think that they could add Notre Dame, but it would take some big concessions on the Big Ten's part. They would need to let ND keep their NBC contract for all home games and let them keep all of the NBC TV money. The bowl money shouldn't be much of an issue because the split bowl money in the Big Ten would be roughly what ND makes in bowl money most years anyway, except when they make a BCS bowl (but they wouldn't lose much money). They would also need to convince ND to leave the Big East and have the rest of their sports join the conference.

If they add a 12 team and it's not ND, I think it should be Pitt or West Virginia. Both Midwest schools that would be logical fits.

Honestly though, I hate the idea of adding another team. Adding another team means a conference championship game and I think championship games are the worst thing to happen to college football in the last 20 years. They are a sham and they don't produce a real conference champion. If anything, I'd like to see them get rid of a team (Northwestern probably, although they've been in the conference since the beginning) and do a Pac-10 type schedule with nine conference games so everyone plays everyone. They you get a real conference champion with legitimate tie-breakers.

East and West works.

East-

Penn St
Ohio St
Michigan
Michigan St
Indiana
ND/Pitt if they join or Purdue

West

Wisconsin
Iowa
Illinois
Minnesota
Northwestern
Mizzou if they join. Norte Dame could come in here for balance and leave Purdue in East.

I don't think either Pitt or WVU are considered Midwest schools? I've never really thought of Pennsylvania as a Midwestern state and, well, West Virginia is kind of in a world of its own. Not willing to be claimed by the North but not welcomed by the south either.

It did also earn him the distinction of being the coach with the most overlooked undefeated seasons. How many times did he run the table and NOT win a national title? There's a reason his teams didn't get that national respect.
