Kent Staup, a football player at DSJ, took his own life today. This isn't meant to disrespect Kent or his family, but this needs to be made known.

Kent Staup gave up his life earlier today. Bullies DO hurt…he is proof. Rest in peace Kent, you will be missed

I read of the tragedy of his passing elsewhere, and did a search of the name. The result I found left me stunned and saddened.

This young man took his life as a result of being bullied.

This needs to end. Unfortunately, lives are lost every day as a result of ignorance and these acts of harassment.

Kids shouldn't have to live in fear, and especially have to live a life of torment.

REST IN PEACE YOUNG MAN

Wow, that's horrible.

Prayers from the Mooney family. Kind of puts things in perspective. All the bickering and fighting we do on this message board, and all the games on Fridays and Saturdays...they don't mean shit in the grand scheme of things.

I, too, would like to know exactly what happened. A number of years ago, I worked with gay teenagers who were at high risk of suicide because of bullying and because of serious problems at home. About a year ago, the gay community put out a video and book titled "It Gets Better" in an attempt to convince these kids that if they just stuck it out a couple more years, their lives would be much happier. Even President Obama helped us with this project. Even if this boy at DSJ was not gay, we could have helped him if we had just reached him. His death is our failure.

If you hear of any other teenagers, gay or straight, who are suicidal, please let me know. I may be able to help.
