Great game. Both teams pretty equal.

Not sure if Hartley shut down the pass or if Kenton just strayed from it a little but give them credit for only giving up 30 pts.

Was not a fan of the venue. First I'm not sure why it wasn't played at Dublin but then the parking at Mansfield was horrible. I was with my mom and she has a handicapped tag. We were told that they were out of handicap spots so we had to park at the top of the hill and walk down to the gate. That and all of the Mansfield ppl that I came in contact with were rude and acted like they had never hosted a game with a large crowd. Just was not impressed. Hopefully I was the exception and everyone else enjoyed.

I'm assuming Kenton and Clinton Massie will be played in Dayton or Piqua next week? CM knocked Kenton out last year so it should be another big game. 3rd week in a row that Kenton faces a wing t, triple option, etc team.

Maty looked rough at the end of the game. Hopefully he can get some rest and try to get healthy.

I was at the game, a little upset at the lack of passing.....Mauk didn't complete a pass more than 5 yards down the field. I was really looking forward to seeing him throw the pigskin all over the place and it wasn't the case.

Sr is a great place to watch a playoff game, sorry you had a bad experience June18.....it is after all Mansfield Since they made the upgrades last summer I think it is a very nice stadium for playoff games.

That's two weeks in a row that Kenton has been using the run and bubble screens. Not sure why they're not going down field more often. I thought they would have a field day with the Hartley secondary.

Wildcats win Divsion IV, Region 14 title

MANSFIELD — Maty Mauk and the Kenton Wildcats proved Saturday night that stopping their passing attack doesn’t guarantee you a win, as Columbus Bishop Hartley found out the hard way in a 30-28 thriller, giving the Cats the Divison IV, Region 14 title.
Defending Division IV state champions Bishop Hartley (11-1), with their last loss coming in week eight of last season, saw their 18-game win streak come to an end as well.
The Wildcats, now 13-0 on the season, will take on familiar playoff foe in Clarksville Clinton Massie (11-2) next Saturday, 7 p.m. at a location to be determined.
With possession of the ball and tied at 22, Hawks running back JuWaun Woodley fumbled the ball on their own 31-yard line, which was recovered by Brice Fackler.
Mauk took over and accounted for all 31-yards on the ground, capping it off with a two-yard score and the 30-22 lead. He finished the night with 163 rushing yards on 19 carries. The Hawk defense held him to under 100 yards passing with 97, going 13-of-21 through the air.
Bishop Hartley drove down the field yet again in rhythmic fashion, but failed to convert the two-point conversion to tie the game, locking up the win for the Wildcats.
The Hawks opened up the game with a methodical march down the field, capping off the 15-play drive with an 8-yard run by Woodley, who led Bishop Hartley with 164 yards on 33 rushes with two touchdowns.
But the Wildcats answered right back. With a short field following a failed onside kick attempt, Mauk led Kenton down the field in just under a minute, taking the ball in from one yard out. Mauk completed a strike to Kieran Fetter for the two-point conversion and the lead.
Kenton recovered the ensuing onside kick and took advantage of the short field, as Mauk would complete his only touchdown pass of the game to Zach Wolowicz for 13 yards and the 14-7 lead with just under 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The Hawks held Kenton scoreless in the second quarter and tied the game up on a one-yard touchdown run by Woodley.
Hartley took the lead with score and two-point conversion in the third, but Mauk found his legs, scoring another touchdown on the ground from one yard out to tie the game, and the winning touchdown from two yards out.

Curious what the time of possession was. 70 rushes and 7 passes for Hartley trying to keep Mauk on the sidelines. 8 min 23 sec opening drive for Hartley then Mauk moves the Wilcats for 2 scores in 3 minutes. His leaping td was amazing for a QB. I think the wind might have been a factor in Kenton's game plan, but Mauk runs people over!

Never had a problem with Arlin field workers, they have always been great in all the games we have played there and with the new turf is one of the best venues for high school games in that part of the state. Also parked free just across the street in the vacant lot 100 feet from the gate.

We went to this game last night and wow what a ball game. I thought the venue was ok, and yes I agree the parking was a mess. I think the wind may have played a little into the short passing game, but I walked away very impressed with Mauk.

Kenton had the ball for 12 minutes and 10 seconds.

Hartley did exactly what they wanted...only mistake they made was the 2-pt. conversion. Thought putting Woodley at wildcat was a mistake because he hadn't been there all game. Wrong time to try something new, IMO. But he and Calhoun were both studs.

This was the 2nd week in a row that Kenton ran into a team who controlled the ball and kept Air Mauk off the field as much as possible...which is the only recipe to beat this team....and in both weeks, Kenton scored 30+.

Just dont know how (other than injury to Mauk) this team doesn't win a state title.

If you'd have told me before the game that Mauk throws for 97 yards and 2 picks and Kenton only has the ball for 12 minutes....I say they get beat.....and I'd have been wrong.

Kenton did that in week one as well. They completed 26 completions for 227 yards and most of their passes were the bubble screens, swing passes or whatnot right at the LOS. Kenton fans said it was because they had inexperienced receivers. He was outpassed in that game by the Coldwater QB.

I said it on other message boards that the difference for Kenton is the two point conversions. Not only do you have to keep up with Kenton on the TD's, but you also need to also convert the 2 point convo.

That is almost impossible with Mauk back there. He can do it all and 4 TD's for them will be at least 30 points and the other teams must keep up.

Dont know if you saw his brother play, but man he threw the ball all over the field and was very impressive. I think he had better receivers though with Petit and Cornell et all. Plus I think he had a better arm (and to be fair to his younger brother, teams werent as prepared for the spread back when Ben was QB).

Park across Arlin Field at the old Kmart parking lot on 4th St. Busses were running shuttle service from various lots to the stadium.I've never had an issue with parking there.
