96% is a lot easier when your players never go to the NFL.swamisez;982256 wrote:Wow Duke football jokes? Tell us some we haven't heard before.
At Duke 96% of football players graduate
at Ohio State 62% of players graduate
Looking at most BCS schools, if you want to be competitive you need to be in the 60% graduation rating. The exceptions are Notre Dame and Stanford. Each of those schools have facilities that far surpass Duke. The commitment to football under former president Keohane was lacking, and with increased giving by the Yoh family and the Pascal family Duke football will help lessen that gap.
Duke football will be a bowl eligible team in the next 3 years. The facilities are quickly improving and the disparity in talent from the early 2000's is shrinking. Graduating <90% of players and winning just 6 games is perfectly fine with me. I would love to have a football program that is successful, but realize that logistically it isn't feasible. So long as the program continues to be run cleanly and there aren't scandals filling the papers like there have been at Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, all will be fine.

Believe me Duke athletes administration faculty and alumni absolutely care. The emphasis is first and foremost academic and always will be. Duke basketball didn't hang the 1990 final four banner for 13 years because a player did not graduate. Upon his completion of required courses at another institution the athletic department and coach k put the banner alongside 1986,1988,1989,1991,1992, 1994.

It doesn't say that Academics is important, that says that they didn't hang a banner becuase someone didn't graduate in 4 years like a lot of people do and then go on to become very, very successful.

Since Wirthy had a career game why wouldn't everyone think that Plumlee did not handle him.Keep thinking that.

What's funny is that Withey is not good...so a bad player put up good numbers against Duke, and he wants to say that Duke handled him..lulzPrescott;992741 wrote:Since Wirthy had a career game why wouldn't everyone think that Plumlee did not handle him.

I feel bad for Hummel. He's just not very athletic with all the knee issues. He's gonna get worked on d a lot this year. He can still shoot it though!

If Illinois hangs on over Maryland, the Big Ten might be looking at 5-1 tonight. Purdue and Ohio State are big favorites. Iowa is also favored over Clemson.

For some reason, I think Miami wins this game.Azubuike24;993649 wrote:If Illinois hangs on over Maryland, the Big Ten might be looking at 5-1 tonight. Purdue and Ohio State are big favorites. Iowa is also favored over Clemson.

I was confident in Miami too, until they went to Ole Miss, as a 2-point underdog, and lost. I lost 20 bucks on that game, so I'm officially anti-Miami (at least for a little while). Ole Miss had just lost to Marquette by 30...and they are without their best player (Jelan Kendrick) for another few games.

Well, the Big Ten should be 4-2. Every nightcap game is a blowout. Iowa...ouch. Clemson is awful and is crushing Iowa.

Iowa is garbage, so I don't care how bad Clemson is I had no expectation of them winning. Other than that, it should be 5-1 Big Ten, but leave it to the scum up north to choke on one.

Tonight's games all went the way I expected. Tomorrow is a little more difficult.
UNC and Nebraska should both win for sure. I'd be the next most confident in Michigan State at home.
I was leaning a little toward Va Tech before Mbakwe went down, and more so now but still not completely confident. Boston College and Penn State are both completely horrific. NC State and Indiana have both looked good. Those are toss ups to me too.
But I'll stick with what I originally thought and go
UNC
Nebraska
MSU
NC State
Boston College
Va Tech
So I've still got it as a 6-6 tie, but no confidence at all in the last 3.
