Orrville, Triway, Tuslaw, Manchester, CVCA, Timken, Northwest & Fairless.

One long drive to CVCA every other year...everything else 30 minute drive or less.
I thought about Northwest as well. I'm sure they would be interested. I think it would be a really nice fit.

Due to financial stains all athletic budgets were cut just recently. Orrville's been looking to get in another conference for 2-3 years and has had talks with a number of conferences and tried to put together our own idea of a conference and they've all fallen apart. We'd look again if the right opportunity arises, but we are in no negotiations right now.

Had 21 alums participate in the flag football game Saturday. Nice turnout. None of the 21 were older than like 26 or 27. Wasn't an old timers game by any stretch.

Jake Bolyard played even though he didn't play football in HS & but he was pretty impressive. What could have been if he'd have played. Would have been on that 08 team that went to the regional finals.

Would have been 1 more gritty guy on a team already full of them (Hoobler, Monheim twins, Besancon, Miller, Corbett & M. Monheim, etc.).

I was a part of the football team that won the OCC I don't think about that. All I think about is beating Wooster and starting the streak, and losing at home in the play-offs to St V&M. Fact is titles mean more get into the play-offs and win games.

Orrville has done the independent thing before. Is that an option? or do the cons outweigh the pros in ditching conference affiliations and going it alone?

Very hard on the AD to not be in a conference. Much harder to fill out the schedule.

Poor fella! Hard on him really? Plenty of teams would play us especially now!

Rrfan is 100% right. Filling an independent schedule in ALL sports is very difficult. Most other area teams are part of a conference & 70% of their schedules take care of themselves. Much easier to schedule 3 non conference games than 10.

Ask your AD buddy over there in Canal Fulton if he'd rather fill an independent schedule in ALL varsity, JV & freshman sports or if he'd still rather be in the NBC.

Pretty common sense reasoning really...i know it's easier to hate on anything Orrville right now, but going independent is not an option IMO. We'd be on an island and our schedule in the money sports could be tougher than it is now as other independents are bigger & parochial schools.

Red Rider Nation like it or not it is the truth. Being in a conference is a good move for Orrville. If you don't agree support your argument.

I don't see a bunch of negatives -let me give u teams that I think would play us-canton central catholic, St Thomas Aquinus, northwest still, triway still, norton, Barberton,Walsh Jesuit, Shelby, Ontario, mix in an inner city Cleveland school or 2, St V, Hoban just to name a few

A football schedule as an independent is not that hard. It is all of the rest of the sports that makes it a
challenge

why don't we just join a private school league? No thank you to that schedule.

You should just join Wayne County League makes sence with travel and size. Still can make playoffs been proven year over year with 2 to 3 teams make playoffs in football. Only thing that would change is 2 non-league games instead of 3. You can schudle to help playing bottom half of league.
The league has not hurt anybody playing in division 4 or 5. What do you think?

I think the Wayne County League would have to let us in and I don't see it. It doesn't appeal to me because I like to play the bigger schools. Yes I know all the comments coming about not winning the OCC even when we are good...but I was never in a league when I was in High School so really a conference championship means very little to me anyway. It get us ready for the playoffs on years when we are worthy of the playoffs.

Says the guy who can't spell the head coach's name right.

Lets stick to content of the post and discuss that, OK?

I wouldn't mind the WCAL, but not holding my breath on getting approval from the existing members of the league.

You already have two votes with Richey at Rittman and Waynedale. Norwayne, Smithville and Northwestern wont run and hide. Hillsdale, Dalton and Doylestown would be the ones that might run.

That's an excellent point. Doesn't seem like we're too interested though. If our ego hasn't taken a hit in the past two seasons, then I'm not sure what it would take to get us to realize that maybe the WCAL is where we belong.

Economically it has to make sense.

Maybe all of this shifting around in college football will trickle down to the high school level. In the age of ever tightening budgets & reductions in state funding, every dollar should be at a premium & spent carefully.

I still don't want to go to the Wayne County League. I don't care what the vote is. I would never get excited about being in that league. Never!

Why would you go to a Cleveland school? Isn't part of this conversation about the economics of not having to drive so far away?

It sounds as though you're certain they would come. But what if they are trying to be mindful of traveling expenses also?

Shelby and Ontario are basically just as far as Mansfield, Lexington and so too Cleveland. That would tend to make the conversation moot!

Would Orrville dare travel to a Cleveland school? LOL!

First off we used to go to Warrensville Heights so yes we would but if we play s game there and it starts at 430pm it's not happening hence the fact that they would come here-secondly I am not sure we are talking economically as much as the fact that we cannot no longer compete in the OCC! Its been a "moot" point until this year all the traveling we do but now that we can't compete it comes up! If you want to never travel play in a league with just Burton City and Kingsway Christian Oh wait!!!!!
