With the move to a new stadium and new name and all that shit, they must be gearing up to do that "buy a World Series and immediately dismantle that team" thing they've been so good at during their brief history.

I had heard some rumblings that before they were allowed to splash into free agency that the sale of the team needed to be completed, but since this is being done internally maybe its ok. Good move for LA though. Out of him, Loney, and Either, I think he's the biggest key to their long term success
yeah I am curious as to how that works. If I am buying the team, the last thing I want is the sellers throwing around big contracts before I take over. With that being said, the big contract for Kemp is warranted. I wouldn't have any issue with this one.

I would take this. Every 6-8 years go ape shit crazy for a year or 2 and try to make a run at it. Then blow it up. They have won more championships since 97 than damn near everybody.

Are the Red Sox really going to let Bard close? He was a big reason for their collapse, he sucked last year.

And it looks like Dale Sveum might get their skipper job.

Anyone heard anything about the Cubs job?

Hanley is "not at all pleased" at prospect of switching positions

Brandon Phillips not happy with the Reds not giving him an extension. He's not scheduled to appear at Redsfest for the first time ever.

They've been pretty quiet but I read Sandy Alomar seemed to be the front runner. At least the ESPN Chicago writer thought so.

It'll be interesting to see how all these things play out. That $160 million eats up a lot of money that they need to resign some other people and meet some very immediate needs elsewhere.

Congratulations Miami, you have a worse logo than a minor league team:

Not a fan of the new collective bargaining agreement that seems to be headed into place. I understand for the need to control some things like the draft that are on the docket, but I definately don't like the addition of another wild card team to the playoffs or 2 15 team leagues that would put interleague play throughout the year. I think that Interleague is a novelty that has run its course. I definately don't want my team in a pennant race in September and have games against Florida and Colorado instead of Boston or Tampa Bay...

So Houston will join Texas in the AL west, 15 teams each side, interleague play every day.

Why not drop or add the DH and just go east/west. It would make more sense.

Why not just take away divisions all together?

Actually, I have come to realize that 30 is just a plain stupid number for baseball teams, either contract two teams (either FL, KC, Tor, Oak) or expand by two (Portland, Sacramento, Charlotte, Nashville, Norfolk, Indianapolis).
