As many others have already said...of course he knew everything in 1998...we now know that is clearly why Sandusky "retired". And we also now know another incident in 2002 was again swept under the rug without any law enforcement or child services contact made. JoePa is clearly culpable of allowing child molestation to continually occur in his community. He must go immediately and unfortunately his complete body of work is now forever stained by heinous incidents that he didn't personally commit, but could heve personally prevented and chose not to do so.
Has any of that actually been proven?

Yes. No one at Penn St. tried to identify the victim in the '02 rape. The Penn St. brass (including JoePa) testified to that.

Again, taking the best possible light of the allegations, at best they all need to lose their jobs.

How come no one mentions Sandusky's wife? Of all people shouldn't she have known what was going on? A lot of the alleged attacks occurred in the basement of their home, yet Paterno was suppose to know everything that was going on at the Campus of Penn St? What about his 6 adopted children, surely they might be aware of what was going on. Why no mention of them? Too many unanswered questions for me to string up Joe Pa just yet.

Maybe his wife is morally accountable, we don't know though that she was told what was going on, so we are waiting to hear her side. Paterno however admitted it was reported to him and did the minimum that was LEGALLY required. That officially makes him scum.

How is that excusable?? Are you telling me Paterno didn't know about McQueary's testimony?

I understand the points from both sides of the argument, however it seems quite a few posters on here are criticizing JoePA and PSU for all the wrong reasons.

Then please tell us why they should be criticized?

I think PSU is really screwing up here by letting him finish the season.

I think maybe let him coach (run out on the field one last time) this Saturday for senior day and then show him the door. I wouldn't be surprised if he announced after Saturdays game he was done.

Go back and read the GJ report: Paterno testifies that MM told him what was going on in the shower was SEXUAL. Yet now Paterno is saying, "I was fooled". How does that jive? Especially with the 1998 incident and the quick retirement forced on Sandusky. Paterno obviously knew about that as well. Do you think Paterno is stupid now and wouldn't put the two things together?

As for the wife: there are countless examples of children being molested in their own homes and the women being enablers (by denying what's happening). It's pretty common. And it also has nothing to do with what Paterno knew...that part is already clear from his own and MM's testimony.

Keep in mind, Paterno himself is retiring on his own after the season. That is not the school's final decision. They could still shit can him anytime.

Travesty of multitudinal dimension if Paterno allowed to "retire" on his own terms.
