COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State all-Big Ten Conference defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins announced today he will forego his senior season of eligibility with the Buckeyes and make himself available for the 2013 NFL Draft and an opportunity to continue his career at the next level.
"I have decided, with the support of my family, to forego my senior season at Ohio State in order to enter the NFL Draft," Hankins said Monday. "I will always be grateful for the family I have gained here at Ohio State.
"I want to thank coach Meyer, coach Vrabel and strength coach Marotti for bringing the best out of me as a football player and person, and for their constant support. I also want to thank coach Tressel and coach Heacock for recruiting me and giving me an opportunity to be a part of this great school and great program."
Hankins, who is 20, appeared in 38 games the past three years and started every game in 2011 and 2012 - 25 total. He was fourth on the team in tackles in 2011 with 67 stops, including 11 tackles-for-loss (-24 yards), and this past season he ranked fifth with 55 tackles, including 4.0 TFLs (-22).
"I have enjoyed coaching and getting to know Johnathan Hankins over the past year," Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said. "His hard work on and off the field has given him an opportunity to move on to the next level. The coaching staff and I wish him all the best."
Hankins, who wraps up his Ohio State career with 138 tackles (58 solos; 80 assists), including 16.5 TFLs (-55 yards) and five quarterback sacks, was a member of four prestigious award/trophy watch lists entering the 2012 season - the Lombardi, Outland, Bednarik and Nagurski. As a freshman in 2010, Hankins played in all 13 games and was named the team's outstanding first-year player on defense. He was Ohio State's Jack Stephenson Award winner as the team's outstanding defensive lineman in 2011, and this past year he was named all-Big Ten by the league's coaches after making things miserable for opposing offenses all season despite constant double teams. Hankins had a career-high 10 tackles twice this season: vs. California and Alabama-Birmingham.
"My three years at The Ohio State University have provided amazing experiences for me, and they are years I will never forget or take for granted," Hankins said. "My plans are to return to finish my degree and to continue to be a part of this brotherhood of Buckeyes. I am so appreciative for the support I have received from my teammates, the coaching staff and administrators at Ohio State, and of course, my family."

Big Hank being projected as top 10 pick on most mocks, even though one had the Browns drafting him...lol!

Defensive tackle Donovan Munger (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) made his official visit to Ohio State this weekend and the trip was more than enough to convince Munger to become verbal commitment No. 19 for Urban Meyer’s 2013 recruiting class

I think I read somewhere that Roby was leaning towards coming back, maybe even confirmed it?
Not sure what I'd do in his situation. I'm not sure he can raise his stock anymore by coming back. I haven't seen any mocks with him listed, but he's definitely got NFL game.

Yea, him returning would be solely for the opportunity to win an NC. He's proven his cover ability, and he's not afraid to tackle anyone. I'm just glad Travis Howard has no choice but to leave!Automatik;1339897 wrote:I think I read somewhere that Roby was leaning towards coming back, maybe even confirmed it?

Well I know coach Coombs said he could really use another year of playing in a man to man defense.

He will be. We really need Roby to stay but I think he goes as well once they tell him he's a first rounder.FatHobbit;1339868 wrote:I hope he is drafted high, makes a ton of money and I'll root for whatever team he ends up with.

Bell's coach(I think) today said his mind is made up 100%. Will announce soon. Most believe he will go to bama.

The speedy Texas linebacker finally made it to Columbus, but emerged without adding his name to the list of 2013 Buckeye pledges. In a heady and productive recruiting weekend for the Ohio State Buckeyes, head coach Urban Meyer was not able to close with one big-time out-of-state visitor -- 2013 Plano (TX) Prestonwood Christian linebacker Mike Mitchell.
After seemingly coming close to committing to Ohio State during the summer, Mitchell finally made his way to the Midwest for a three-day stay from Friday to Sunday.
And despite the fact that the consensus four-star linebacker with a national offer list didn't end his recruitment over the weekend, his father, Ken Mitchell, did say that his son was impressed with what he saw. His first two words were 'crazy' and 'awesome.' The first thing he did when he got there was spend time with Coach [Urban] Meyer. Then he went to the OSU basketball game. He said it was a great time.
It was the first trip to Ohio for Mitchell, who was born in Florida and grew up a fan of Meyer when he was coaching the Gators to national championships.
In terms of the Buckeyes, there was some consternation among Buckeye fans that Mitchell's parents didn't make the trip. His father shot down that talk. "It doesn't make a lick of a difference. Mike is smart and he knows what he wants and he knows that we're good with whatever he chooses. We don't live through our kids or anything so we'll leave it in his hands and whatever he wants, we'll understand and be totally supportive of it. I don't think he can make a bad choice with what he's got on the table."
As for future visits or a current timetable, the elder Mitchell said that the family will sit down in the near future and discuss options. In other words, there are no visits currently set up and no timetable for a decision.
Oklahoma and Texas A&M are generally considered the primary competition for Mitchell, who has already taken visits to Norman and College Station this fall.

Yeah I'm unfortunately thinking he will end up at Bama as well but this guy says he knows a close friend of the family and they said he was going to OSU so I'm holding out hope he really does have a connection. Wouldn't be surprised if he commits to Alabama but one guy who thinks he is going there also said Munger was about to commit to UCLA. I may be grasping at straws but I'm holding on to them tightly until I hear the words come out of his mouth.Midstate01;1340088 wrote:Bell's coach(I think) today said his mind is made up 100%. Sounds like Trey Johnson is looking good for the Bucks as well after UF got a commit from their 4th LB of the class.
