Honestly I never thought he'd sign here unless no one else showed interest. I was more surprised that they were even looking at a starting pitcher. I suppose that there is a difference between actually showing interest and kicking the tires.

The good news: Oswalt scheduled to meet with the Rangers tomorrow so he isn't a done deal yet.
The bad news: the Indians aren't even on his radar. Red Sox are still interested, and he just turned down a 1 year offer from the Tigers. Despite winning the central and pulling in Fielder...the Tigers are still out there trying to improve their team! The Tribe appears to be standing pat again, as they did after 2007, but with less reason of course.

Did anyone see 60 minutes last night with NFL commish Roger Goodell? He said that the revenue sharing is the key to their success. 80% is divied up around the league....and with that....gives teams from little Green Bay Wisconsin a reason for hope.....each and every year.

I had heard that once contracts are up, in either 2013 or 2014 the Tribes estimated payroll will be something like $2 or $3 million?

What's with Dolan anyway? I think the best thing for all of us fans would be for him to get out and sell to someone who cares about putting a quality team on the field.

Lerner cares also. If he didn't he wouldn't be paying for all of these coaches/GM's he's fired. He keeps trying until he finds the right "recipe." Lerner may be clueless but he definitely cares. Don't mistake stupidity/ineptness with not "caring."

Parity is just fine in baseball. The problem is that the Indians, Pirates, etc. are horribly run and managed.

I will agree the Indians have an owner that won't spend (everyone knows this). But you have to be blind if you believe there isn't a difference in payroll from large market teams to smaller ones, and their ability to compete for the high end players. Huh? Baseball has revenue sharing. Some teams choose to spend the money wisely and on improving their on field product.
I think your main talking point here is lack of a salary cap. Baseball has no salary cap. It certainly has revenue sharing and I can promise you that teams are banking a ton of money from that.

I don't think it is worth arguing with him. How can I take him seriously when he didn't even know that revenue sharing is alive and well in baseball? It is nobody's fault that certain organizations are mismanaged or are not spending that cash windfall wisely

Teams get millions from revenue sharing and there is no rule on how much they can spend. Nothing stops Cleveland or Pittsburgh from getting major free agents except for owners who care more about their bottom line than they do about winning.
