The team has Vinnie Pestano and even Tony Sipp that could take the role of closer from Perez, and in the past the team has had luck trying different players in that role.
No way in hell I want Sipp being our closer.

Pestano would be a solid closer

Bullpen pitchers should never be untouchable, unless they're a Mariano Rivera level closer. Perez was a good closer, but he isn't lights out.

He's not untouchable, but you better get a hell of a lot in return. More likely someone else could be traded....Maybe the other Perez, Sipp or Pestano.

The biggest reason to trade Perez is that teams tend to overvalue closers and we might get some team to over pay for him. That said I wouldn't trade him unless we get someone who's major league ready and probably another prospect.

I'm sure the Indians are going to be linked to a bunch of players the next few days. I'm guessing Antonetti will call just about every 1B free agent that isn't named Fielder or Pujols just to see what kind of asking price their looking at, along with a few multi-position players. So far I've heard Josh Willingham, Casey Kotchman, Derek Lee, Mark DeRosa, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Carlos Pena, Michael Cuddyer and Casey Blake. We'll probably hear even more names as the Winter Meetings continue.

I'd REALLY like to see Willingham in a Tribe uni.

Me too. A legit RH Power hitter. Dont care about average or defense or anything. I get those are important, but the BIGGEST thing this team was missing was power from the right side.

With the Reds in need of closer, and Yonder Alonso blocked by Votto at 1B, would that be a deal that would make sense for both teams? I know Alonso hits from the left side, but he has put up great #'s in the minors and had some quality #'s in limited time in the majors this year.

Another 1B that could possibly be had via trade is Gaby Sanchez of the Marlins. If Miami does end up landing Pujols then they'll be looking to move Sanchez. Sanchez might not have the upside of Alonso but he does have 2 years of major league experience averaging 19 HR and 82 RBI. Last year he would have been 4th in OPS, 2nd in OBP, 3rd in HR and 3nd in RBI on the Indians.

Also why a 1B if Santana is not going to catch anymore?

He's still going to catch the majority of games he plays in. His value at the plate is much greater as a catcher then it is as a first baseman.

Of course it is, as long as he does not get hurt, break down and/or allow baserunner freewill.

No, cause Santana/Marson is not as good as Willingham/Santana (or whoever they sign for 1B).

Willingham is an outfielder...and I'm not sure about his ability to play 1B. If you sign a starting OF it means someone will have to be moved...most likely Choo or Brantley.

No way they move Choo or Brantley......If Santana can develop into a better catcher, that is where we need him. How many teams have a really good hitting catcher.....3, Tigers, Rangers, and Giants?

No way they bench Choo. Most likely Brantley goes to the bench to be the 4th outfielder being able to spell both Willingham and Sizemore.
