Problem is, your not going to get a 28 HR/95 RBI guy for $8-$10 million per year.

We can talk ourselves out of anything;)

Supposedly the deal for Willingham is 3 year/$21 million. Twins are still talking to Michael Cuddyer too.

Cuddyer would look good in a Tribe uni also...very versatile player...plays corner INF as well as OF. It is believed he wants a 3 year $36 million deal. The Twins have a 3yr/$24 million offer on the table, and it is believed the Rockies have offered at least $25 mill. Rumors that he'd take 3 yr/$30 Mil.....Apparently much too rich for the Tribe who doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere as a possible suitor..:(

cuddyer would be perfect for the tribe.....but they will never spend that kind of money on a player to make a playoff run.

Another RH bat off the market...Cuddyer has signed with Rockies 3yr/$30 million. Tribe was not involved at any point.

Tribe did make a big signing...in the radio booth. Tom Hamilton will be back, and Jim Rosenhaus was promoted to replace Mike Hegan who retired last year.
You gotta love Hammy's home run calls....if only we had someone to hit them;)

Just pondering this morning.... the front office says it time to win now....approximately a two year window. Yet the winter meeeting have passed without adding anyone of significance.(I described their moves as 'treading water' earlier in the thread). As always, money seems to be the sticking point. I understand the point some of you have made about not spending money if a player is not going to be 'difference maker'.....but if that player is identified, will the owner step up and pay the few extra millions that might be beyond budget? We all know that Prince Fielder would be a 'difference maker', but that he is way beyond the ability of our team to afford. Josh Willingham was available and perhaps affordable, but apparently not enough of a 'difference maker' to spend on. I would have thought that Michael Cuddyer would have been a solid addition being that he can give good offensive production and play positions where we have need....yet the Tribe wasn't even sniffing that at $8 mill/year.
The question I have is, who the hell is out there for that kind of money that is going to be the 'difference maker' we seek? Will the Dolan's ante up to make that deal happen?

As first reported by Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, then confirmed by FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Indians are in serious talks with the representatives for veteran outfielder Mike Cameron.

The Indians are also interested in Andy LaRoche.
Cameron hit just .203/.285/.359 with nine homers and 27 RBI over 78 games between the Red Sox and Marlins in 2011, but the 38-year-old probably isn’t demanding anything greater than a minor league contract and an invitation to spring training.
Cameron would provide insurance in case Grady Sizemore again struggles with injuries. LaRoche, who also won’t do better than a minor league deal, would simply function as organizational infield depth.

It is looking like Derek Lowe and resigning Grady were our big purchases this off-season.

Is that a joke? Why are you in 'serious' talks with a 38yr. old guy who hit .203 and knocked in 27? Make the guy low offer, and if he doesn't take it, SO WHAT?

All this seems to do is provide depth so that we can finish 2 games below .500 again. SMFH.

I did too, that is why I posted it. I was looking at his Browns commentary, and he just through that in.

To Hits point earlier, how exactly do you negotiate with Cameron?

Leaving aside that there is no need for this team to be looking at 38 year old CF's who hit .200, if you insist on doing it how do you offer anything more than the absolute bare minimum allowed? There should be no negotiating.

Mike Cameron chooses Nationals over Indians

Washington and Cleveland were reportedly fighting over Mike Cameron.

I’m not sure if this qualifies as winning or losing the fight, but Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the 38-year-old outfielder has decided to sign with the Nationals.
Cameron defied father time for years, remaining very productive offensively and excellent defensively into his mid-30s, but he was injured for most of 2010 and hit just .203 with nine homers and a .643 OPS in 78 games for the Red Sox and Marlins this past season.
With that said, there are worse options to fill a bench role as a backup outfielder who can still probably be reasonably productive versus left-handed pitching, and the Nationals have made it clear all offseason that they want some veterans on the bench. And the Indians may have bowed out after acquiring Aaron Cunningham to fill a similar role.

I am happy we aren't signing a 38 year old center fielder that hits around .200.

What does it say about the Indians though that we can't even close the deal with someone like that?

How do we ever sign anyone if we can't beat out the Nationals for Mike Cameron? I don't know whether to laugh or cry about that.
