And I am a Barberton alum, so I know how tough Barberton kids are. They will hit you hard, no doubt. Talent might not be there, but the will of a Barberton kid will always be there.

This will be a unique game for me to watch. Growing up I lived and died with Barberton Magics sports. My dad is a member of the Barberton Sports Hall of Fame and all us sons were in some sort of sports in Barberton. Now I am an avid Northwest fan. Weird feeling, never have been this torn over a game.

I'm definitely excited to play a team from right down the road. Barberton doesn't have the D1 prospects they used to churn out, but they will play hard. They have a great coach in Jeff Sharkey who knows all about NW....he has been an assistant at Louisville, and Canton South....and he was the head coach at Marlington in the 90s.

Any one see the article with Whiting saying Akron needs to recruit Ohio kids instead of Florida kids? http://fridaynightohio.com/news/sunday-special-time-mac-step-and-recruit-stark

Honestly Whiting made himself look like an idiot and hurt Riley's chances of being offered by anyone. Sure Riley is good, but why is he entitled to a scholarship from Akron? Maybe they don't want him or any QB with playing a promising Sophomore this year and having a Junior backup....they should focus on getting some linemen. The Florida argument just shows how ignorant Whiting is.....There is 1 player from Florida on the entire roster and 50 players from Ohio. Also, I'm pretty sure MAC teams don't give a crap about who Akron is offering. Why would you look at what Akron is doing when they can't even put a decent quarter of football together?

I read it. Thought it was absolutely absurd for him to say that. He can think that and what he says could be true, but throwing stuff like that out there certainly isn't going to help get your kids recruited. If you have a borderline D1 talent on your roster, basically calling the recruiters idiots and their team awful isn't going to help his players out.

Because if Poland Wins they will overtake us at 5...Play Mooney in the first round. Steubenville is a lock at 1, if mooney stays at 4 they will play each other in the second round and beat each other up. Im hoping Northwest drops to 6th or 7th, that way we either get Minerva or Dover the first round. Does this makes sense to you?

IMO it might of been foolish to say this, but if you think about it Both Akron and Kent have screwed Stark County players badly. Coach Hazzell has already stated he will start to recuit stark county more. Hopefully Akron will do the same

Put all the stats up you want summa, 30-16 is all that matters. NW pulled away because they were the more balanced team, passing game was off, so NW ran. STA wasnt gettin it done with the run, but didnt have a good passing game, 4 int. Not sayin STA is a bad team, but NW has played tougher teams and done better. They were flat in the first half, you seen one game, those of us that have seen all 9 games will tell ya.

Makes sense, but I would rather finish in the best possible spot...even if that means playing Mooney. If we want to get out of the region we would have to probably play them anyways. Whats the difference if it is week 11 or 13? You may say pride in getting to further rounds, but if you are beating lesser teams (not saying that Minerva and Dover are lesser) then it is kind of a false pride. Remember, there are still scenarios that we don't get in, even if we do win. (Even if it isn't all that propable.)

Summa is right you know. There is no way that you can defend saying that we should have crushed them. I would like to think that we could have, and we would have if they played how they did and we played our 'A' game. However, if both teams played to potential, I think that the score would have been similar. STA is a tough team.

Does anyone have an update on the condition of the gridiron at Smilek Stadium? We took some more rain last night with heavier stuff coming in later today and tonight. Its Senior night, so I doubt they would want to move it to Barberton.

I would love to see STA beat CCC and sneak in to the playoffs. I think with their tough schedule of playing up in divisions, they could make some noise early in the rounds.

I agree...

Everyone needs to stop cowering about playing Mooney and bring on the challenge. Where's the confidence in the kids? Some people on here need to man up and grow a pair. I would be more worried about Steubenville than Mooney.... I would rather go play Mooney at YSU on turf than in mud bowls at Minerva or Dover.....

Bring on the Cardinals! You will have to play someone (Big Red or Mooney) eventually. This team is not afraid to take on anyone. They have showed this throughout the season. From the All-Catholic League to the Steel Valley to the Cleveland Inner-City. The boys are ready, we can all speculate on who to play, but this Friday, is Barbertucky's turn at the Mud Bowl.

whiting has been sayin that about akron and kent for a long time! having played for him and watching some of my fellow teammates who could have gone to D1 to play and not get any offers at all from either school it is def the opinion of many stark county schools. akron does not recruit stark county at all enough said! best of luck to the indians tonight finish strong!

Looks like we are pretty much stuck traveling to Youngstown in week 11.

Seeds 1-13 all won in region 11...I don't see any situation where it changes much.
