I already listed intelligence work. Did you miss that? Like I said, I'm merely pointing out what it will take to achieve "safety" (why you keep putting that in quotes escapes me lol) at the airport. My knowledge base in airport security is slightly larger than the average bear.

Because the idea that we can be safe throught these methods is insane. They aren't actually promoting what is traditionally considered safety. Thus the quotes.

Broward County's mayor wants to get rid of certain airport security body scanners that may be a health risk at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport.

The advanced imaging technology machines used at security check points at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport uses radiation while scanning passengers.

The problem Mayor John Rodstrom has with these particular scanners is the potential health risk to South Florida flyers. "The Europeans have outlawed them. I don't think they do things lightly, and I want to know if our flying public is safe," said Rodstrom.

TSA employees at Boston's Logan International Airport, which use the same scanners, are reporting that they have an inordinately high number of TSA screeners that now have cancer. These employees stand next to the scanners throughout their shifts.


The TSA released a statement regarding the question of health risks from the body scanners saying in part, "All results from independent scientific evaluations confirm that these machines are safe for all passengers."

What do you expect the screeners just quit their jobs because after years of no one caring about them, now they are the center of "controversy". yeah, they got what they deserve....right.

I don't think he was referring to the screeners themselves, but to the TSA as a whole in investing in cronyism to purchase the dam things and then the fact they are unsafe. The TSA is promulgating "safety" with their scanners and yet they are more unsafe than any security they provide. Dark irony, eh?

For me...what about the frequent fliers that have actually had radiation passed through them hundreds, if not thousands, of times? What is their recourse? Aren't they just as likely to be cancer-stricken from these death-machines? Or would you surmise that is the cost of freedom and safety for all....to have a death sentence pronounced upon those who are kept "safe" from harm?

I think the TSA is completely aware that these machines aren't safe. Follow the money, look who is getting paid by the contracts for these machines. Let me pose a question. If I go to the doctor to get an x ray or to the dentist, why does s/he cover me in an iron quilt and run behind a 3 foot thick metal wall?

These people are standing right next to a giant x ray machine with no protection at all, the TSA won't even let them wear dosimeters. If the machines are truly "safe", what's the harm in allowing the TSA employees to demonstrate that by wearing a device that would show that there isn't any radiation? No matter how bad it was, no matter how much I needed money I wouldn't work for the TSA, and you couldn't get me to go through one of those machines if my life depened on it. Expect tons more cases of cancer reported in 1-2 years.

It's hard to care about an agency that is hated as much or more than the IRS. These are the front line government employees touching and groping travelers everyday. No, I don't really care all that much about them. If they get cancer and have to live with that, that's not my problem. The union (ha) should actually try and do something for its members.

As a Cancer Survivor myself, I would not wish that upon anyone.

That being said I agree with tk421 that there is a reason why when you go to the dr. they put that iron quilt on you and they get the hell out of the room. Noone should be exposed to those machines without protection for that many times.

But at least we are safe from the terrorists now

well at the doctors and dentist, the xrays see to my bones. airport scanners dont see that deep. probably why there is a difference, however i didnt stay at a holiday inn last night.

You make a couple semi valid points, but there's still no proof the machines were the cause, or even how many cases were actually talking about.

better not use a cell phone, laptop, desktop, tv, or just flat out breath. and actually, when you goto the doctor, the doctor doesnt give you the xray. his "nurse" who went to the local community college because she dropped out, had 3 kids, divorced and decided to go back to school did see how that works.

An xray technician has many times more training than the TSA people.

you use your cell phone and laptop every day for many hours. i have yet to pass through a xray screener in my life. and unless you travel everyday for business, most people wont. but you tell me which one will probably mess with your health more.
