I disagree. No one is laughing at Northwestern because they didn't make the tournament. People are laughing their insides out now and for the next 100 years at Duke because they lost to a 15 seed.

Collins has stated that he is definitely interested in the Illinois job. But, with the Illini AD recently passing along remarks indicating that the school's next basketball coach needs to be black -- or at the very least Indian -- and Leonard Hamilton knocking, the Duke associate head coach is probably not going to land in Champaign.
Hamilton is no longer interested in the Illinois job. He says he is staying at FSU.

Thanks for posting. I'm glad to see this for the ACC. Hamilton is a great coach. What he's done for that program is pretty special considering that program has been defined completely by football for decades. The ACC title he won this year won't be his last.

That's because they're not relevant. I loved John Shurna, but he was kind of like an entertainer at the circus. Good for a few minutes of excitement but then it's time to go home.

Rumors circulating about Frank Martin to South Carolina. That would certainly be an interesting move.

Frank Martin's definiteily going somewhere...he should have left last year, but didn't. He's not gonna win in Manhattan, he's done all you possibly can there.

I think he'll go to Illinois.

I saw something about Robert Smith having informal talks with Illinois. I mentioned him as a darkhorse on the Weber thread. Obviously deep Chi-town ties and he could make an immediate impact if he could get Jabari Parker to the Illini.

It's unfortunate for K-State because they actually have some pretty decent history -- 1 national final, 4 Final Fours, 7 Elite Eights, Tex Winter, Mitch Richmond -- but that's all in the past and it's merely a stopover now. In that respect, K-State reminds me a lot of Oklahoma State. You might have sprinkles of success, but the glory days are gone.

South Carolina seems like a great move if Martin wants to disappear. Unless he's from that region of the country, I'm not seeing it. Dave Odom, a good coach who (albeit with Tim Duncan) experienced championship level success at Wake Forest, went there to die. He did make three NIT finals, though.

He would need to swallow his pride and take a big time pay cut. But he should also have a little common sense and realize that if he wants to be a head coach he isn't going to do any better.

Just saw Rhode Island signed Dan Hurley. Good move in my opinion. Did work at St. Benedict's and then turned Wagner around in a hurry after making the college jump.

I'm thinking Shabazz will be west coast and Nerlens will be Syracuse. But I'm hoping I'm wrong.

The comments he made yesterday about Syracuse don't bode well for UK or GTown. Honestly though, I see major in appeal in both UK and GTown...but not so much Syracuse. Then again, we are trying to use logic to figure out recruiting...which can be a grave mistake.

Wouldn't mind seeing Bobby Hurley spend a couple of seasons with his brother in the Atlantic 10 before joining the staff at Duke once Capel leaves. Another guy that would bring mad credibility as a recruiter with a legendary point guard pedigree is Jason Williams. I hope K gets one of the two in the near future.

Glad to see the Hurley brothers continue their father's coaching legacy.

Trent Lockett transferring from Arizona State to be closer to home while his mom is ill with cancer. Originally from Minnesota, my guess is he ends up with the Gophers (if they can make scholarship room) or Iowa State.

“I think I’m getting close,” Noel said. “I think after my mom talks to coaches and Kentucky does an in-home visit. Then Syracuse is on Wednesday and my mom already met with Georgetown when she went with me on my visit.”

Each of the three remaining schools has a different angle with which to approach the shot-swatter. The Wildcats, well, they could be four games away from replacing probable No. 1 NBA draft pick Anthony Davis.

“I don’t like to think like I’m replacing somebody,” Noel said. “I want to go in there and play my own game. I don’t want to replace him and I know we’re similar but I want to go in there and do my own thing.

“Kentucky, when I was there they showed me how good of a job they do with their players and that maybe in 1-2 years in college I could be a professional.”

Then there’s Syracuse. Noel’s always been fond of the Orange. “Syracuse has a great tradition," he said. "Whenever I go there it’s a family thing and I like [Jim] Boeheim and [Mike] Hopkins a lot. Playing with Mike Carter-Williams again would be real good. They do a great job of explaining the place.”

Good deal. I don't want to get my hopes up but that sounds promising. Carter-Williams has shown flashes in a limited role this season and he'll definitely play a bigger part next season so hopefully that is intriguing enough for Noel.

Just saw that Mason Plumlee will enter the draft. Wow.
