I actually don't consider UK to be the big favorite. But I realize i'm one of the few and can understand the argument as to why they are.Laley23;1096106 wrote:I would think it validates only what most believe. Kentucky is a big favorite.
Liked your other post better..too bad you took it down. And I am another one who doesn't think Kentucky is a clear cut favorite.Laley23;1096106 wrote:I would think it validates only what most believe. Kentucky is a big favorite.
Which post???vball10set;1096260 wrote:Liked your other post better..too bad you took it down. And I am another one who doesn't think Kentucky is a clear cut favorite.
lol--sorry, wrong posterLaley23;1096284 wrote:Which post???
Im not saying I think UK will even win. But when the odds come out, Im guessing they are the top spot by a bit.
Yeah, the favorite going into the tourney rarely actually wins the title. The tourney is such a crap shoot, it's stupid to choose a "favorite." Now, who is the best team going into the tourney? that's what I would go with..and this year it's gotta be Kentucky.Azubuike24;1096281 wrote:Since Kentucky won it's last title in 1998, I'd say of the 12 national champions, only 4 have been THE clear favorite coming in. Anything can happen. I honestly felt the 2009-10 UK team would eventually overcome deficiencies and win by talent. They didn't make the Final Four. I thought last year after losing on the road to Arkansas and Ole Miss, that Kentucky could go out in the 2nd round. They made the Final Four. It's crazy.
Stats don't tell the whole story. Davis has more talent, more balance offensively around him. He is not the focus offensively that Robinson is. Defensively, he is MUCH better. Its not just the block shots, but there is an intimidation factor where he deters teams from driving, or kicking shots out. Or, how many shots does he alter in a game?SportsAndLady;1097277 wrote:Why T-Rob should win NPOY:
Against 8 ranked foes this season T-Rob has averaged 19.8 ppg, 12.3 rpg,55.6 FG%, 76.2 FT%, with 7 DDs and 4 20-pt games
Davis (these are unofficial, taken off of ESPN's website):
13.75 ppg 7.75 rpg 65.38 fg% 81.4 ft%, 1 DD, 0 20pt games
Every argument for Davis is for his defense...which yeah he plays incredible defense. But that's DPOY stuff. I realize it counts for NPOY, but I laugh every time the argument is brought up UK fans will say "yeah but Davis has more blocks..less fouls..less turnovers" okay? So use that in DPOY convo, not NPOY.GOONx19;1097284 wrote:^ I'll take the bait. Against those same teams:
Blocks: Robinson - 0.75, Davis - 5
Steals: Robinson - 0.63, Davis - 2.25
Fouls (which, against post players likely lead to FTs): Robinson - 3.5, Davis - 2.25
Turnovers: Robinson - 3.13, Davis - 1.75
Kentucky has six players who average 9.8 ppg or better, so Davis is not looked to for scoring nearly as much as Robinson. Kansas only has two players above that mark.
Also, you mentioned the FG%. People don't realize how big of a difference that is. Extrapolate the numbers out and Davis would be averaging 21.9 ppg if he attempted as many shots as T-Rob.
Averages are fair, but not totals. The DDs and 20 point games shouldn't count because Robinson has twice as many games to draw from.
Finally, whether it should factor in or not, UK's #1 ranking will help Davis.
Ive been thinking about that for awhile. We should.SportsAndLady;1097846 wrote:Maybe we should start a recruiting thread, but there is some life (there was zero before) to Shabazz to KU after he was in for a visit during the mizzou game

Granted, it's still very, very unlikely that happens...
