I absolutely do not believe some of the crap on here.

I am the first person in my family to graduate from college.

I got a masters degree from Harvard University on a full scholarship in May 2010.

Since graduating from Harvard, I can’t find a full-time job; I live off of low-payed temp jobs.
I have $60,000 in student loans
I am the 99%
You have a Masters Degree from Harvard and can't find a job? Something is fishy. Did you get a worthless degree in English? Why didn't you get one in nursing if you don't like being unemployed.



I graduated from a major U.S. university with a master’s degree.

My thesis included landmark research.
My GPA was 4.0.
I haven’t been able to find a job. At all. Even in food service.
I owe $92,000 in loans.

Maybe they live in shitty cities. I know after college I couldn't find a job I wanted in Cleveland so I moved. After I moved I didn't have much issue.

As weird as it seems...I say it's plausible. I mean if you're a manager at Wendy's, and some guy comes in with a Master's Degree, you're probably going to be thinking they're too good for this job, or maybe that he doesn't need/want this job so he's going to quit as soon as something better comes along. Just a thought though

Obviously these are not the whole story. Depends what these people got their degrees in. Depends on their networking. Depends on their interview skills. Depends on other things as well. I got a master's in market research, graduated in January 2009, during the recession. Have held steady employment in my field since. I do agree that overqualification for people with advanced degrees searching for basic employment can certainly be an issue, for reasons stated above.

I believe it. I could even be on there.

I have a Master's degree (working on number 2 now). I have a competitive resume for my line of work (and the age I'm at). I got shot down for a 9-month position that paid $15,000 because "I wasn't qualified enough." That's what I was told...I was more qualified than the person who I would've worked under. I also applied at 40 other places for similar positions and never got a sniff from them.

Maybe I should put a picture up on there...?

These stories are plausible. Obviously there could be things about the situation that are being left out but I'd rather not assume anything I don't know (that includes assuming these guys didn't leave anything out). So for now I'll say "that's awful if there isn't anything damning you're leaving out".

After reading 10 or so pages 80 percent are just defeatists that seem ok wallowing in their shitty situation. Most of them are not in dire straights and need to quit their bitching.

These people put themselves where they are. One lady complains her mortgage tripled this year. If her mortgage tripled thats because she entered into a dumbass loan that she had no chance to ever pay off. GTFO Another complaining that he worked a non profit for 4 1/2 years to help his town where he took a pay cut and when he went back to school he cant afford it. YOU made the choice to go back to school and where you worked before hand. YOU knew how much going back to school would cost before you went. GTFO

I also don't get the "fuck Wall Street" mentality when most of the complaints are about a mortgage you couldn't pay and student loans.

Some of these are almost certainly flat out lying for effect. You got a FULL scholarship to Harvard, yet have $60k in student loans to cover 2-years of living expenses? Really, you're living expenses in Boston were $2500 a month? Hardly impossible, but pretty damn reckless for a student with apparently no financial resources. $2500 a month is living awfully large on 100% student loans.

The other guy is plausible, though I'd be willing to bet "landmark research" is entirely his own opinion.

My advice to these gentlemen would be, unless your degree is in finance or law, you're wasting your time on Wall Street. They wouldn't hire you if they had a job opening. Maybe your real beef is with the school you spent all that money at that didn't provide you with good job opportunities. Maybe you should be looking for a refund instead of a handout.

I am a public school teacher. I have 3 Master’s degrees and no student loan debt. My parents paid for all of my education.

My wife is also a public school teacher: she has a Master’s degree … and more than $80,000 in student loan debt.
We are the 1%, and we are the 99%. We are parents of two young girls: let’s make fairness, justice, and equality affordable for all.

And you do not teach math. Either you AND your wife - you're collective "we" - are in the 1% or the 99%, as a married couple you cannot be both.

fairness - equal pay for unequal value creation?
justice - robbing from the rich to give to the poor?
equality - affirmative action for the poor?

Is that about the gist of it?

I am the 99% by definition but I'm not a whiney bitch. I've got student loans, a car payment (two until just recently), and a mortgage but I've got a job because I picked the right field to get in to. I've even been laid off but had another job offer 3 days later.

So why do people feel that they are owed a job just because they have a degree???

You are not guaranteed anything in life.

Having a job is a contract between the employer, who needs a service, and the employee, who is providing that service. Nothing more.

And another pet peeve of mine is people who think that businesses are created to give people jobs. Businesses are created to make money for the owner/shareholders. The jobs provided is just a by product. If I could start a business and have it totally automated, therefore eliminating paying salaries, then I would.
