Norwayne did scrimmage and it was obvious we will need our football guys to be successful, but the players who were there held their own and looked pretty good. I won't go as far as Paul and say that we were the best on the floor, but for missing the football players, they looked pretty good.

So which games will you be going to this weekend? I'll pass on the Norwayne football game and watch it on TV if I can. Friday night Smithville and Strasburg, Saturday night Smithville and Buckeye.

I'll be at Rittman-Danville friday night and Rittman-Open Door on saturday. Hope to catch the Norwayne game on tv...Looking at Rittman before the first game and they are very young. Only 3 seniors and from what I hear a lot of playing time will be going to juniors and sophomores. Only one player with any size (Boyes) but after that they go to a kid who played guard on the JV team last year. Look forward to seeing how they handle two winnable games this weekend

Triway beat Waynedale in the Foundation Game (for Waynedale Relay for Live & OHSAA Foundation), 50-35. Waynedale was paced by #32 Short's 13 pts. #30 Hawkins had 6 pts, and nobody else with more than 3. #4 Keim had a team-high 5 rebounds. The Golden Bears had 8 assists to 15 turnovers.

I spoke to someone else who was at the Norwayne-Triway scrimmage, and I heard that Triway won all but 1 quarter.

New coach may drive himself crazy with Bears this season.

Short is a pretty good player for Waynedale, and Hawkins is truly a basketball player. He will be a good one, like his brother.

I know this is the WCL, but I am going to watch Hiland/West Holmes Friday night expect it to be a good one. May go watch Orrville Saturday night or Smithville not sure yet.

saw the article in the DR this morning on Burch - tough break for the Hawks as it looks like he's out for hoops and baseball.

i actually haven't heard for sure - i know there is still some soreness. This was the first week he was trying full practice. Actually, If I were coach Stutz, I would probably give some thought to sitting him another week or two if it is still really sore as their games this Friday and next saturday are nonconference games - Tuslaw, then Fairless (I am sure their scheduled game next friday vs Norwayne has been moved). The week after that, they open up league play against the smithies. At the same time, if he is able to go - he probably needs to knock off the rust so its a tough call.

I know how he feels. Had a high ankle sprain JR. year that kept me out of 4 football games to end the year. That happened week 6 and I still missed 2 weeks of basketball. I know professional athletes, even with the best treatment, still miss a ton of time with those. They just seem to linger.

I will check on Chase's status in a few minutes. A co-worker has very close-to-the-source info and should be able to give a definitive answer.

** UPDATE: Chase Moyer will not be playing tonight. Today marks exactly 6 weeks from when he was told "6 weeks", but he was not cleared to play. Supposedly he feels fine and has been running/exercising on it and says he feels fine, but just not cleared to play just yet.

Nice job Pit. Thanks. Smart decision. This game doesn't mean much in the scheme of things and I bet that Dalton wins anyway. Their system emphasizes team.

I heard when Moyer does come back, that he'll still have to "earn" back his starting position.

that's too bad, but like you said, its really a good idea overall. He may have to earn his spot, but I have to say - I like his chances to do that pretty quick.

Smithville won 53-35. Strasburg played the entire first quarter in a box and 1 on Bates, then went man to man. I'll just say Klotzle had 15, Bates 12, Calendar 11. Don't really wanna talk about it other than that.

Rittman had Danville on the ropes but coughed it up late..Shot 33 3pointers so its obvious they will live and die by the 3

Smithies lost to Buckeye. Unlike what the paper stated, Bates dominated the game with 21 points, many rebounds and assists. Klotzle did have 15 and 14 but was the beneficiary for many of those and did not give much in the second half. There aren't many teams that can keep Steve off the boards. Alex getting in foul trouble really hurt. Buckeye was tough. Calendar was in double figures again.

bulldogs are going to have some growing pains with all the new faces. It was also obvious that they look to Chase to run the offense through - when he's not there, the O sputters. They played hard on defense all game, but some of the soph's were sometimes out of position. Jake Masters looks to be a very solid PG, but he needs to shoot a little more when its there. They need to get the ball into center Clay Bowe a lot more. They also need to MEET THE BALL on passes. There is potential here, but it may take a few games (and a healthy Moyer) to realize it. The soph Lowe has some potential, although he is not quite ready for extended varsity minutes. His brother scored a ton of points at Kingsway. Tuslaw is just not a very good team.

Rittman dominated Open Door but that was somewhat expected. Dennis had a huge night with 20 points and 4 Indians scored in double figures (Dennis, Walls, Fetter, Johnson). Again they shot the 3 a lot but hit 13 on the night. Next game is friday night against Northwestern. If the Huskies can use their size on the boards and contest shots then they will probably walk away with a win.

Is Dennis the real deal Madman?

Big early season game Friday when Smithville travels to Chippewa to play the upstart Chipps.
