I have some friends in town and they are looking for some things to do. Anyone ever scalp tickets to a blue jackets game? They don't want to spend a lot of money (they were looking to go to a clippers game, but that season is apparently over) but I thought it might be fun for them to see an NHL game. Will there be scalpers around the arena? I looked online and found the blue jacket ticket exchange but I assume ticket master would get a cut and I have no interest in paying them.

Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Just look for the black guys.

I have bought and sold some tickets around the arena area. You shouldnt have to pay much at all to get tickets so I wouldnt worry about the price. Maybe if its the Pens or Red wings on a weekend it may be a little harder (but then again, I could only get 40 bucks outta 75 dollar tix for the Red wing game two years ago.

I think you can go to the box office and get them if it is not sold out. They used to have some cheap huntington seats tix that go on sale like an hour before the game.

Dont know if you have scalped tix much, but dont be afraid to haggle, walk away and due your diligince and dont buy the first ones ya see if they are not the right price.

go hang out at frog bear an hour or so before the game and usually someone in there will be holding up free tix or nearly free tix around the time the game starts...

I've scalped at the shoe before, but I've never tried at the Arena so I wasn't sure what to expect. Thanks!

No problem. I have scalped many a ticket during the day, mostly to steelers games, and if someone has never done so before I think those scalpers just smell a newbie!

I have been in that area where all the bars were and didnt find a whole lot of buyers and sellers, but i have only done so 3-4 times at Jacket games. Mostly just walk around the perimeter

Why not just send them to the ticket office? With a handful of exceptions, the games aren't sellouts.

I looked online at ticketmaster and the only tickets I see that are available are $41 each. I looked on the ticket exchange and they are $36.80. I'm guessing there will ticketmaster fees on top of that. I'm not sure what tickets go for now from a scalper, but I was thinking it would be cheaper. But I've never scalped blue jackets tickets so I thought I would ask here to see what to expect. Now I'm thinking maybe opening night isn't the best option for cheap tickets so maybe we'll wait until Monday to see if things aren't a little cheaper. (They aren't hockey fans that I know of, but they want to attend a local sporting event.)

Outside of the big road draws (Pittsburgh, Detroit, Buffalo, Toronto, New York, Philadelphia, some other random ones) and significant games (opening night, giveaways, promotions), you can get tickets dirt cheap. Don't buy from the scalpers. There are always regular folks out there looking to just get something back on their investment. There are many games I would sell them to actual fans for $10-15 bucks apiece if there was a buyer rather than $5-10 to one of the scalpers. These are quality tickets too. Lower bowl, about 6 rows from the ice. Your friends should have no problem finding good seats, just don't even consider paying even half-face value for CBJ tickets because they just aren't worth that.

You still have season tix? My stepsons would love to go to a CBJ game with other than nose bleed seats and I just cannot afford to really shell out money most times. Would ya be interested maybe in selling them to us at some point?


I had 4 lower bowl tix to the Red Wings game a few years ago. I bought them for face value, think it was 75 bucks each. I used two and we put two up for auction at our local baseball fundraiser thinking they may go well.

They didnt. I ended up buying them for 60 bucks TOTAL. So, we just wiped that off the fundraiser and took them to columbus and barely got half scalping outside the arena.

We reduced season tix down from 4 to 2 before last season. They generally get used 95% of the time. My dad is a hardcore fan, and he attends every home game. I generally go to about half, and he finds people to go with him almost every game. So basically, they are available probably once or twice a season, but I will PM you if there are any times I know they won't be used.

With that said, like you mentioned, until the CBJ prove to be worth a damn, and even if they do, it's not worth ever paying face value for tickets, no matter where. Given that most people go to the CBJ for the family experience, premium seats in the lower bowl should not really be overcharged like the scalpers will try and tell you they should be.

I'm hoping to go to the game on Nov. 10th. It will be my first hockey game. Is it easy to get 4 seats together if you scalp?

We used to scalp tickets for week night games for five bucks even got glass seats for 10 once

By November 10th the CBJ should be a dozen points out of the playoff race, so yeah...:)

Honestly, the biggest dependent on scalping price is A) the opponent and B) the night of the week.

November 10th is a Thursday against the Blackhawks. I'd say it will be an average draw in-terms of road team and demand to see the Blackhawks, who will draw some fans locally. However, it's a Thursday...shouldn't be too bad. Especially with both college football (Virginia Tech/Georgia Tech) and NFL (Denver/San Diego) on that night.

This will be my first year attempting to follow hockey, but my understanding is that the Blue Jackets should be a pretty good team this year.

Yep. Place is full with just Toews and Kane jerseys. Every now and then you'll see a Belfour, Savard, Hull, and Roenick jersey.

I've seen projections that have Minnesota and Nashville in the playoffs. Still no excuse though. Need to start getting the W's.

I guess I could re-phrase it to say teams with no more chance to make it than the CBJ. AKA, teams they CAN'T afford to lose to, especially at home.
