If Floyd's punishments were appropriate, then the ones levied by the NCAA on Posey and some of his buddies were too severe for the 'crime' they committed.
If the punishment levied on Posey et.al was appropriate, then Floyd's was too light.
They don't really have anything to do with each other. I look at it more like how your Dad would punish you versus how your employer would punish you. Whatever you did, your dad is likely going to ground you and hope you got the message. Fuck around with a company rule and you run the risk of being fired. Whatever stupid rule it may be and however petty it may seem, you are totally at the company's mercy and you knew the consequences.
You keep talking about how the amount was so little for the stuff they sold. I've known people who lost jobs over less than $100 of long distance phone calls from work. Nobody is going to say, well it was a dumb company rule and my dad only grounded me for a week when I got drunk so this is totally unfair.
