I don't know what your problem is. If Berry is guilty of assault he should be suspended or kicked off the team. That is a real violation. Smoking weed/failing a drug test especially during the season....That is a real violation. Three alcohol offenses..including a DUI..that is a real violation.
What have I said that is not the truth?

I've posted it before

from the article:

..and then reinstated him in time to get ready for the season.

So while Posey sits out a ten game suspension for selling a few hundred dollars worth of memoribilia , a round of golf( actually 6 holes)... and not being able to account for 5 hours of work,..... Michael Floyd is hauling in 57 passes for 667 yds. including 4 TDS.

I, as a good catholic boy with some ties to ND, am trying (in the grand scheme of things)to get a handle on how one kid gets a whole season wiped out while the other still plays.......
Maybe you could shed some moral wisdom on the relative punishments.
Can you honestly not see the difference between two underages (not serious at all) and a DUI (very serious)?

That's like saying a speeding ticket is a criminal offense. NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT UNDERAGES, and with that in mind he wasn't kicked off the team. He was moved into a dorm and was surrounded by freshmen, given a ton of community service, and revoked of his captain status. Considerng he had something like 8 months between his offense and the first game, he had the time to change his behavior. If it were to have happened in June, he'd have been fucked royally.

Have you read why Kelly decided to take that form of discipline or are you just glossing over the whole thing and only seeing he didn't miss games?

Floyd needed to make a change in his life. Missing a game or two wasn't going to make him change. Look at Berry's situation (not sure why Posey was brought up considering no one was talking about him in this thread). A few weeks ago he was in some sort of physical altercation on campus with a student. It was written off as a bad reaction to medication or whatever. He didn't play in the next game, maybe a coincidence, maybe a suspension. That was the end of it and the situation was thought to be handled. Then last week, a similar incident occurs when he punches someone in the face in front of witnesses. Obviously Berry didn't get the memo that getting into fights wasn't acceptable. He lost some playing time but there was no change in behavior required. Another difference between Berry/Floyd is the time of the year it happened. Floyd benefited by having a semester and a half to make the necessary changes. Had he gotten a DUI during the season, there is zero question that he wouldn't have played again for ND.

You have to be pretty dumb to get busted for an underage twice in my opinion. It's understandable to have it happen in high school, but you should get your shit together by college.

That has nothing to do with the (complete lack of) seriousness involved with it, but it's pretty much the only part of this topic that I care enough to comment on.

I thought Berry was going to be a good player. Hopefully he gets things figured out.

An interesting reaction to medication to let it happen twice in the span of a month. Or we can be honest and admit this guy is tweaked.

Berry should tranfer out of OSU, he will never play. This should be encouraged by the coaching staff. It's too bad because the guy has a ton of talent. As far as comparing the situation with Posey to Floyd, Floyd violated a team rule, Posey an NCAA rule much different. I think Posey is being F----- by the NCAA but there's not much anyone can do about it. Floyd just benefits from weak team rules where winning outweighs what should be done. (but that doesn't just happen at ND) it's pretty much across the board.

Hitsrus isn't real well informed. He originally thought Floyd had 3 DUI's. SMH.

Yep.
You can spin Floyd however you want, but there obviously is an alcohol problem that wasn't handled early by a coaching staff that knew about it....and when they were finally forced to they slapped him on the wrist. You seem to be okay with that., and in fact I'm okay with that....young men make mistakes and it's more important that they be corrected so they can lead valuable lives.

Both of you were adamnant that Posey and the OSU boys deserved all of their suspension, and were not so willing for the NCAA to allow them to get away with a slap on the wrist. I'm just looking for some sort of relativism here. You seem to be okay with your coach handling Floyd situation, but won't cut Posey the same break for a less egregrious misdeed.

My problem is with the NCAA and their over top punishments for picayune rule violations.

Considering he got busted with weed after he signed in 2009 too, most normal people will come to this conclusion.

You'll find a lot of hypocrisy in dealing with Notre Dame fans. Floyd is an alcoholic, and no he didn't break NCAA laws he broke FEDERAL LAW. Floyd should have been kicked off the team indefinitely. But at ND, when you have a coach who should be in jail for murdering an innocent video cameraman, its different. At ND, you can do no wrong.

Why do you keep bringing up Posey? I'm looking for some sort of relativism to the topic here. Please explain how Berry not playing in the game after his "medication' induced altercation did anything to change his behavior. You'd think after not playing in a football game, he would have learned that he can't punch someone in the face, right?

Is picayune your favorite word?

Haha they wanted him on the field, bottom line. I get the idea that sometimes guys need the program as much the program needs them. If thats the case, you keep the guy on the team, have him participate in every single activity except the games.

Having him participate in every single activity except for games does not guarantee his behavior changes. Look at Berry's situation as an example as to why simply taking a game away (if that's what actually happened) does nothing to correct the problem.

Underage drinking and DUI's are not federal law, dumbass. They are state laws that all states use in exchange for federal funding. You don't see college kids in federal court for alcohol.

How can a guy go to Ohio State and be so stupid?

Oh right so breaking state laws is no big deal. I guess at ND you can break state laws and still play football.

Only in South Bend...

Go back and re-read post #22. If Berry is guilty of assault, then he should be suspended indefinitely or kicked off the team if this is a second brush with the law..( or at least 1 game like the LSU guys) (sarcasm).

As for Posey, I want to know, in consideration of their misdeeds, why your principles allow you to let Floyd skate, but Posey deserves very bit of his suspension. Pretty simple question.

So, in consideration of their misdeeds, what do you feel the punishment for Berry should be given Michael Floyd's?

In consideration of his misdeeds, I feel Berry should be punished by lethal injection. That's what my principles allow me to think.

There is absolutely no point in discussing anything with you. You are too dramatic and over the top about how athletes are used and exploited and how their misdeeds aren't taken into consideration in the picayune minds of the NCAA.

That's the best answer you can come up with???

Let me help you.
If Floyd's punishments were appropriate, then the ones levied by the NCAA on Posey and some of his buddies were too severe for the 'crime' they committed.

If the punishment levied on Posey et.al was appropriate, then Floyd's was too light.

You can't have it both ways. You are right about this being a worthless discussion because the only thing that matters to you is what color uniform he's wearing.

Where did I say I agreed with Posey's suspension? He was already suspended and then committed more violations. I could give a fuck if he is suspended or not. I also don't really care what happens with Berry. My main issue is with you comparing either situation with Floyd's. Floyd and Posey have ZERO in common as far as their off the field issues go, yet you continue to try to compare them because your principles allow it. Floyd and Berry are more closely related but the circumstances are still very different. You keep saying that Floyd "skated" by which is no where near true. You fail to actually look at facts surrounding his suspension and reinstatement but instead hop on your soapbox about picayune misdeeds and whatever other crap you mindlessly babble about.

Nothing guarantees a behavior change unless you lock them in a cage. The reason you don't let them play games is to punish them, and the team for his actions. The only reason he didn't miss games is because they wanted him on the field helping the team win. It had NOTHING to do with rehabbing Floyd.

Again, suspending him one or two games doesn't guarantee change either. You have no clue why he didn't miss games. you have what you think and that's it.
