Well, they both suck! LOL

Yeah, it looks OK now because he can start game 1 but man, that is a an awful risky thing to do. You have your best pitcher so why not keep him available to pitch in a deciding game? Especially with a BP session scheduled for that day.
Or it worked out exactly as Leyland had planned. He had enough confidence in the staff to get it done, which they did. I'll trust a manager with a World Series ring and many other accolades.

Personally, I think the two best teams left are playing right now in the Tigers and Rangers. Tigers won the season series and both teams have been hot for the last month (as well as the Cards). I would love for the Tigers to get a redemption series against the Cardinals.

Suds series in the NL. Miller vs Busch. Think I'll have a beer to commemorate.

Phillie Phans were burning Howard jerseys last night. They must not realize he's under a huge contract for another 5 years or so.

Most Philadelphia fans are idiots. I'm sure they'll be burning Vick jerseys this weekend after the Eagles go 1-4. They'll also not realize he is under a huge contract as well.

Ryan Howard's remaining contract:

2012: $20 mil
2013: $20 mil
2014: $25 mil
2015: $25 mil
2016: $25 mil
2017: $23 mil club option with a $10 mil buyout

Which brings up the question. Which contract is worse at this time: Howard's or A-Rod's?

I'd say if Howard tore his Achilles last night, his becomes worse. The Phils have said they are trying to cut payroll and are about tapped out. The Yankees don't give a fuck.

I definantly worked out as he had hoped, and you cannot really question him because he has a few more wins than any of us at the MLB level as a manager!!!

I just think it would have been best served to not have him throw his side session and have him available for that day. UNLESs, maybe, he was feeling enough soreness/fatigue that there was no way he was going to appear in the game anyways. I just think a manger woudl want all his bullets in his gun in the determing game.

Have to root for the tigers I guess..

Arod will be 42 when his contract is up. Howard will be 37.

Usually don't watch baseball over college football but if that OSU offense is anything like last week it will be an easy decision.

Terry Francona in the booth tonight. Leyland said Verlander won't pitch game 4.

It looks like the Detroit Tigers are in for the 2nd straight series where their starting pitching plans will be disrupted by weather in game 1. Should Leyland start the 5th starter tonight and save Verlander until the weather clears out?

Dude has a ton of power.

Too bad he gets injured a lot or he'd hit 40 plus.

HUGE advantage/break for Detroit if Detroit can win this game. Multiple weather delays in one inning....forcing Verlander out to Game 4

Verlander really hasn't pitched well in the playoffs at all. I'm not sure it's been disadvantageous for the Tigers at all that he's been forced out twice by rain so far in the postseason, because he didn't look sharp at all in either of those starts. Even though the first one was only 1 inning, 2 walks is as many as he averaged per 9 innings for the regular season.

He just hasn't been a clutch postseason pitcher. He was OK in his 2nd start against New York, but he hasn't been close to dominant.

Carpenter wasn't any good either until the must have game 5....Verlander is their best pitcher, if he doesn't win, the Tigers have no chance. Great or not in the postseason so far, he's their best and they need him.

I thought all along the Rangers would win in 5 or 6.....but had the Tigers pulled that out, it would've been a break....maybe only mentally.

Young being out hurts a lot too, because he was on fire against the Yankees.

Tigers-Rangers PPD, big news though is Magglio Ordonez is out for the season.

In Milwaukee, Greinke called out Carpenter before the series as "fake" (wtf?), then proceeeds to give up 4Er in 4IP
