You get one free "rental" per month of most top sellers. Maxim is $1.99 a month.

I have the Kindle3G (basically the kindle keyboard) with a prime account ($40 for students/year)

Advantages: Kindle is awesome in the sun, Great battery life, Idiot proof, inexpensive.
Prime Advantages: 1 Free book a month (saves me like $100/yr), free 2 day shipping on all my purchases, some free shitty TV shows and movies
Disadvantages: No real internet/email/games. Black&white (fine for reading). But I just wanted something inexpensive I could read on.

They have been updating the library for the prime instant view. Supposed to rival Netflix in terms of tv shows here pretty soon.

I think the Prime membership may be something I have to let my wife decide on. Wouldn't want to order it than have her not like any of the books. Yes, I know there is a free trial.

Making me want to consider the Kindle Fire. Main reason I DON'T want the Kindle Fire, though, is the fact that my kids will want to use it, and my wife would constantly be on them about leaving it alone.

Plan on ordering today. Someone just answer this question, please:

So are Kindles the way to go, and NOT the Nook?

It appears that Kindles are the way to go, reading the latest posts.

Which company has the better chance of being around in 3 years. Amazon or Barnes and Noble? Customer service alone would make me choose the Kindle

My kid has a nook touch and loves it. But I got a new one for 55 bucks, so that played into the decision

How do you like it? My BIL got one for Christmas and I almost bought one for myself. We have the last generation kindle that we share.

Not keen on brightness. Will take getting used to. Can't find anywhere to change it.
