I would add another element.

1. You immediately think the hot chic is out of your league, so she can remain that far off, untouchable dream. Then, the "becomes hotter the more you know him" sets in for her and you end up banging her. Then you realize she must not be that hot because she did your ugly ass.
2. You know you actually have a chance with the less hot chic, but you can't come right out and say, "look, you're not hot enough to be selective, let's bang." So you have to make yourself believe that she's hot, so you can keep a straight face when you lie about how hot you think she is. You're also going to be bragging to your buddies about how you're roping some chic in, so if they don't think it is actually challenge then you just look like a turd who is trying to bang an ugly chic.
