Big East basketball or A10 basketball? Hmmm..... tough one.....skiisme753;930591 wrote:UCF and Temple wouldn't surprise me. What does everyone think about Temple though....sure they would fit, but think about basketball....would they rather stay in the A10 and have a better shot at the NCAA tournament?
in all seriousness though, basketball will barely even be looked at. The move will be made b/c of football, not basketball.

I know football drives the bus but you know temple will take a step back in bball.
It is a given that recruiting will get a boost so maybe they'll make it work.

22 teams for now, but it looks like Air Force, Boise State, and UCF may be Big East bound.
Still way too big to be feasible.

If they had some sack, they would have taken the best 12 created a new conference and kicked the others to the curb. 22 teams is waaaaay too many.dokken;933619 wrote:Conference USA and Mt West merge.

Why stop at 16 when you can have 22?

More Big East plans:
Apparently Boise State and Air Force are both still major question marks though.
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7101780/source-big-east-sends-invites-five-schools-hike-exit-fee
I just want everything to get done and settled.
That would put it at 11 members (+ maybe Navy) for football, and the MWCUSA would be at 17.If all goes according to plan, the Big East will end up replacing outgoing Pittsburgh, Syracuse and TCU with full-time members Houston, Southern Methodist and Central Florida, while adding Air Force and Boise State in football only.

Did CUSA and Mountain West merge or will their respective regular season champs meet in a "championship" game? I had seen this idea bounced around recently.

Getting Houston, Boise State, and Navy should be beneficial for the Big East.

Merged into a not-so-superconference. The ESPN article I linked says the merger went ahead due to Boise State indicating they wouldn't go the Big East, but who knows what sources actually know anything these days.karen lotz;933868 wrote:Did CUSA and Mountain West merge or will their respective regular season champs meet in a "championship" game? Good for Missouri. Oklahoma and Texas are clearly jerking everyone else in the conference around. The Tigers have had enough of it.

Moreso Texas than anyone. IMO, Oklahoma growing a pair and telling Texas how the fuck it's going to be as of late basically saved the conference.

It's being reported that the University of Houston has been extended an invitation to the Big East. Here is an article from the Houston Chronicle.

I'm also hearing rumblings SMU could be offered an invitation tomorrow.

$10M or no, Cincy and L'ville need to keep pushing the Big 12....good additions to the conference's basketball rep., and they can keep the Big 12 a legitimate BCS level football conference with TCU and possibly BYU or some other program.
A potential Big 12 North of Cincy, L'ville, ISU, Kansas, Kansas St. and Oklahoma (for balance) and a Big 12 South of Okie St., Texas, TT, Baylor, TCU and BYU is workable.
This new Big East doesn't deserve an automatic BCS bid in football, and any football tv contract is going to be crap.

Would the Big XII take Cincy over WVU? I ask because most of the things I've read recently mention WVU and Louisville, but no Cincinnati. Seems like those schools should be rooting for BYU to stay away or one of them could possibly end up screwed.Manhattan Buckeye;937400 wrote:$10M or no, Cincy and L'ville need to keep pushing the Big 12....good additions to the conference's basketball rep., and they can keep the Big 12 a legitimate BCS level football conference with TCU and possibly BYU or some other program.

Perhaps, perhaps not. WVU brings so little to the table in terms of an overall sports program, academics and television market that Cincy would seem to be more attractive, WVU brings a strong home following in football and that is about it, Cincy trumps in all other categories. Texas, Okie, etc. would rather play in Cincinnati in the Bengals' stadium (if Cincy can swing it) then go to Morgantown in November.enigmaax;937453 wrote:Would the Big XII take Cincy over WVU? All the rumors I have seen floating out there is that FOX (who holds the B12 TV contract) is the one pushing WVU, whereas the B12 wants Louisville. Many believe WVU holds national brand name recognition and would attract a lot of TV viewers. Despite the fact UC has solid athletics, a larger TV market and better academics than both of those schools is that the Cincinnati market is too divided with UC/Xavier/Miami/OSU/UK/ND/Bengals/Reds to carry their weight. I think if BYU some how does not work out for the B12 UC would be taken as a third pick (and please note this is what I pray happens).

Louisville has announced a 12pm board meeting where it is expected they will give authority for the President and AD to explore conference options. Looks like this all will be moving very quickly.
